What blood lines do you run?

Post by Casey Harner »

Out of the lines you run which dogs have been the best you've seen run? What desired traits do they have that you like? Also what would you do to improve the line??

Years ago I started with two littermate Gay Demon bred Females, Eventually bred to Mr. Bill , Also have bred to Kalagha , Englebert, Red River Bruce , Bucks Branch Willie Boy and other Fileld champions of this line, And they weren't all F.C's before I bred to them, but all finished. I also bred to Cheat Mtn's Gay Bake which I believe was the first ARHA Grand Rabbit Champion, Got some good ones there and If I remember correctly his Sire was FC Gay Demon and his Dam was FC Ben's Creek T- Babe. I normally do not breed to anything that is not heavy in Mr. Bill or Kalagha blood. Good middle of the road type of hounds , Good hunt, all day stamina, close on the checks, Great Kennel manners, Biddability,Darn good looking hounds. No health issues . I don't expect a pack of them to lose rabbits. As most of you know who are familiar with these hounds they all are heavy in the original Gay bloodline.

I was told that Red River Bruce threw lots of hunt. gwyoung, I am picking up a pup this weekend out of FC Mahantago Vally Missy and FC C & R Mags Dunce. I believe they are from your neck of the woods...DH

deerhost, Bruce was a rabbit jumping machine, and he put this into his pups and if you had a bitch from a hunting family all the more likely. I liked Bruce from the minute I saw him. He was a very animated little hound. Les said he was 12" If I remember correctly and Les should know, But I swear he looked about 11" or less to me. I have a female here right now that I would like to breed and if I had my choice of all of the dogs that I have ever seen, to breed her to, it would be Bruce. Their styles and traits are so similar, she is a very good hunter but not the jump dog Bruce was.
