Republican Sponsor Of Bill To Require Drug Testing For Georgia Welfare Recipients Arrested For DUI

A Georgia Republican who wants all welfare reciepients subject to drug tests failed one himself after he ran a red light on Friday morning. The Atlanta Journal Constiution has the story on State Rep. Kip Smith (R):

Smith, whose given name is John Andrew Smith, first told the officer he had not consumed any alcoholic beverages.

“I asked him again, and he stated he had consumed a single beer at Hal’s. I noticed also that Mr. Smith’s eyes were watery, and I asked him to exit the vehicle, which he did,” Kramer said in the report.

Smith told the officer he’d had the beer 45 minutes earlier, and the officer asked him to blow into a hand-held “intoximeter”. The officer said the lawmaker refused, stating he would prefer to go to a clinic or the hospital to get tested.

The officer said Smith finally agreed to blow into the device. The report stated that Smith blew a .091., which is above the legal limit of .08.

Smith is a sponsor of Georgia House Bill 464, which would “require random drug testing” for citizens on public assistance. In response to Smith’s legislation, State Rep. Scott Holcomb introduced a bill last month that would require all state lawmakers to be subject to random drug testing.

They should not only have to pass a drug test, but report to their local unemployment office for community service work while collecting unemployment benefits. A .091 is barely over the legal limit and most hand held devices have a greater margin for error than that. I'm sure the officer who is a member of a union and democrat didn't smell any blood in the water. None the less is was stupid to put himself in that situation, especially being a public official. I'm sure no democrat has ever done anything lacking in the ethical or moral department. Congratulations, you win dumbest post of the month!

I'll explain farther since you don't seem to be able to understand what was written. If the range of error is equal or greater to the amount over the limit then he may have been within the legal limit. A blood alchohol test is much more acccurate. If he actually was over the legal limit then he should be punished just like every other citizen. And your post is still dumb. You speak as if this is the only politician to break any laws. He's a politician which means he undoubtedly lies. If you think politicians in the democratic party don't lie then you're as ignorant as your post. I'm all for drug testing lawmakers and anyone that is recieving a paycheck via public taxes. You seem to be content with drug testing Republican law makers. I believe there should be a conduct code for anyone holding a public position and it should include a broad range of moral and ethical topics. Just so you know where I stand.

Two things just LEAP out here...first, I did NOT read in the article you posted anywhere that it said this lawmaker is supporting a bill that SHOULD NOT APPLY TO HIM...go back and highlight that part if you could. It wouldn't be a shock to find a politician supporting something that he or she exempts themself from though, right???

Which is a perfect segway into my next point...Obambi and the other trolls in congress who crammed Obamacare down the throats of the US population have EXEMPTED THEMSELVES and a lot of their union thug buddies from the very legislation they created...that is a better example of this statement I think....Ill just tweak it a bit to fit Obamacare...watch, it works very well too!!!!

Please explain how it will save millions of lives. You have said this more than once and I'm interested to hear how you come to this conclusion. Warning, it will require you to think for yourself. I'm not interested in reading a quote from anyone but you, especially a left winged, liberal, socialist column. Take your time and think it through, ask some tuff questions, and forget about all political views for a moment, and concern yourself only with what is right or wrong, not right or left.
