Diamond DOG FEED
Hey Guys, i switched from Purina Hi Pro many years ago because of personal reasons about ingredients in the feed and wanted to feed a higher quality food and see if there was a difference. So in doing that i did research and for the past 5 years i fed Blue Buffalo and Taste of the Wild. With those 2 feeds i noticed good coats, good energy, but most important they maintained their weight in periods of no running. I normally have about 3 hounds and with those 2 feeds being expensive it was not that bad only feeding 3 hounds. This past year I purchased a pack of 4 plus the 2 hounds i had and with things being as they are i went back to the research board and switched to Diamond Chicken and Rice to alleviate some of the sticker shock when going to TSC and it seems to be working out well, good coats, good energy, maintaining weight, but my hounds seem much hungrier and have a lot more stool in their kennels than on Blue Buffalo and Taste of the Wild. Now i know the ingredients are not the same as the previous 2 but this chicken and rice food gets pretty good reviews and was wondering what some of you guys out there who may feed this may of experienced. I put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into my dogs and refuse to skimp on feed and want the best i can get with a good value. Any of you Diamond Chicken and Rice guys out there? Thanks in advance, Keep em Running, Bruce

Re: Diamond DOG FEED
I feed the Diamond Naturals chicken and rice 26-16. I'm having very good results. At the cost of $24.50 / 40lb. bag. it wont break ya either. I run almost everyday for an average of 3 hours a day and feed roughly 11/2 -2 cups per dog and they maintain well. If I'm not running a certain dog (mainly older female and pups) everyday I'll cut back to 1 cup and they hold up good.I know many guys around my area, including running buddies ,that feed it also with great results. With all that being said , I've never tried the others you mentioned to compare with. However I feel with the ingredients listed on the Diamond ,and the results I'm getting , I have no reason to switch at this time. Good luck.

Re: Diamond DOG FEED
Diamond High Energy is corn base and is not the same as Diamond Naturals which is rice base. The two can not be compared as they are in a completely different class.
Pride is a corn base feed that uses pork as the source of protien, I know several houndsmen that do well with it but it did not hold up for me, loose stools and poor coats.
The Diamond naturals chicken and rice did not fare well when my dogs were run hard every day on hare but I had good success with the Extreme athlete 32/25. It is a high energy food and too much if your not running hard.
Recently I have been mixing Diamond naturals beef and rice 25/15 with the extreme athlete. The only advantage is that it allows me to switch to straight extreme athlete when I know for sure that I will be giving the dogs a workout.
I am far from an expert on dog nutrition but the dogs look good, have good stamina and stool.
Diamond Naturals;
Beef and Rice 21.00
Chicken and Rice 24.00
Extreme Athlete 28.00

Where do you get the beef and rice for 21 bucks a bag???

Re: Diamond DOG FEED
corn overload is the reason i switched from purina to begin with, when not ran they just packed on the pounds. i had good results with blue and taste of the wild, am also having good results so far with the diamond chicken and rice, dogs look in great shape and coats look good, just they seem so hungry and theres so much stool in the kennel. im thinking their not absorbing as much as they need to out of the feed and its coming right out the backside. i know diamond has some less expensive feed and some more expensive ones too but this chicken and rice formula has good ingredients and also very good reviews. i have also thought about mixing the extreme athlete with the chicken and rice when running heavy, good to know its working. thanks for responding guys, anymore appreciated.

Re: Diamond DOG FEED
i also feed diamond chicken and rice; it does my dogs good; it doesnt have the corn in it.
Re: Diamond DOG FEED
i like the diamond natural extreme athlete but it cost to much for me to feed all my hounds,$39 for 40# but if you need to fatten one or 2 up it works great, i feed hi standard 26/18 ,$23 for 50#
if i was closer to spruce ridge id buy the diamond without a doubt

Re: Diamond DOG FEED
I feed Purina dog chow in the summer but when running hard or trialing a dog I mix or straight feed the Purina one Smart Blend Chicken & Rice it has actual pieces of Chicken in it .You can confuse this with Purina One it is Chicken 26/16 but not the same as the Smart Blend ,they also have it in Lamb.I like this very well I belong to Purina Pro Club so I save the weight circles .

Re: Diamond DOG FEED
We also feed the Chicken and Rice With Good Results We usually Mix it with the maintenance Formula 50/ 50 when Not running hard. I have noticed more stool if not running and feeding the chicken and rice alone..
From Field to Show and Show to Field the way it should be
