I dont think i have ever stole much pecially from a Piggly Wiggly seeing how my best friends Parents owned the joint we did how ever turn the air conditioning quite high in the summer to see the bra less women come in out of the hot sun for a somewhat perverted sense of humor. That however was merly a picture of the man i once was, in which to be honest i am not ashamed or afraid to admit my past life.
I am now grey and older and content rasing kids and hanging out at the house and occasionally going to church, once again it is not how we start its how we finish ......... My only outlet at times is reliving a few glory days with a bunch of chaps i have never met or friends i never get to see and for that i apoligize to no one. Joey guess you handled it a little different than i would have and thats alright, never the less it great to see both sides of the coin .
Joey,
I don’t think you did anything that terrible, maybe you were a little harsh but I can understand your frustration. Either the dude knew what he was doing and is an idiot (what I believe) or he needs to be properly educated in hunting etiquette (possible).
Either way I think he should be strapped to a chair and made to read this post in its entirety 100 times.
If he is still inclined to take to the field after that, take him and the youngsters to the woods and show them the ropes. You never know something good may come from all this.
WOW,
Maple Valley unloaded a mouth full of the most truthful words I've seen. I often ponder what I thought were vitally important, can't live without things from back in the day only to come to a startling realization that they weren't even worth my time or effort let alone of vital importance. Funny how ones priorities totally change with time. I also have to make one big admittance and that is my parents and grandparents were the smartest people I knew back then but I was just too dumb to know it. After all these years of being so smart I have learned that communication is a two way street with the ability to know and understand that when certain folks speak they are like E.F. Hutton where one can hear a pin drop. What that tells me is it's time to shut up and listen up.
I've also learned over the years to be able to differentiate from what pours from a person's heart and what rolls from their lips. I've also came to understand that the lips often get in the way of the heart and certainly run away with the brain. Yes, I'll have to agree with Maple Valley, I've done some pretty brainless things as I've wondered through this life. I think the ability to learn from those brainless things was actually a part of the Master plan. As I look back I see that my life has been and still is an education from the beginning and will be to the end where my strong subjective beliefs, without positive knowledge (opinion) have been and certainly will be tested over time so that I could get a grasp on what is a reality or fact from what is fiction, an assumption or a possibility without questioning it's truth.

I think all I have said backs this up. Eventhough getting shot dead is a very good reason as Well, and I simply explained to bigdog what is very apparent in this world today, there are those out there that will shoot you over less than a rabbit, I think that is clear to all of us, and very hard to muddy for most of us.
Bigdog, I hope I don't have any to report, but you will have to admit the more confrontations we have in the field while rabbit hunting will increase the likely hood of it.
Ok so believe the very best of everyone and give them the benefit of the doubt.
Fear the worst from everyone and assume they are all gonna kill you if given the chance.
Just wanted to make sure I completely understood your stance...........still clear as mud.

That is a lame excuse to not stand up for what is right, imo. Like I said before I can understand you would handle it different, that's your decision to make not mine. You are right also in that it only takes one time with the wrong fella and you could get shot but that does not mean you or anyone else should have to bow down to any joe schmoe that decides to do the wrong thing. And backing it up by saying I'll just live and go to the next spot might work for you but just discounting everyone else's opinion doesn't automatically make you right. And yes we could go on and on and on so we should probably just all agree to disagree but I gotta say it one more time...........your still wrong, at least in assuming that your way is the only right way.

And for the record I'm 33 so maybe in another 20 years I will be wise enough to just walk away..........or maybe I will have just lost the strength to stand up for what I think is right. But for now self preservation be darned!!!!

Well Some of us may be a little older and in Some cases a little Wiser One lesson I was taught Many moons ago that i wish on a few occasions i could have remembered "A Good Retreat Is Better Than A Bad Stand Any Day"
But this also Does not mean that we have to back Down from our Principles it just means that we Choose to use our heads a little more!!!
Like I said before What would the outcome have been if the other party Had just been Approached at the beginning??
Think about it!!!
From Field to Show and Show to Field the way it should be

wow i know thiis is an old topic but working long hours i dont get to get on here often..I probably would have responded by yelling,,, DID YA GET IT BUB!!!! being from Kentucky you learn that you choose those cuss words wisely....it seems to me that some guys enjoy barking back and forward at each other.. never was good at that myself.. i dont get out in to many strange areas hunting..but in the ones that i do hunt in,, my advise would be to stay calm and try to treat your fellow portsman with the same respect that you want to be treated with... Some of my Family moved North. And i've heard many a story bout how the local hunters had to learn about respecting them..Myy Grandpa had the best saying about this topic...." Bad men and Fat hogs dont ussually last to long.. JMO
The main thing here IMO is that if you felt like you 100% handled the situation right you wouldnt have asked the question in the first place. Having said that who cares wether people agree with you or not. Sometimes in the heat of the moment people overeact. I'm sure you overreacted a little but if your anything like me your first instinct is to protect your own. Thats who YOU are responsible for. Having said all that.......
It sounds to me like after it was all over it weighed on you and you come here to get approval from your fellow houndsmen even though you knew that you probably could have handled it better you wanted others to tell you it was alright. Anytime you spend time rationalizing what you've done theres a good chance you didnt do the right thing. A quality decision isnt followed by so many question. Live and learn.... Happy Hunting Joey hope to see you back on the board....
Take your kids huntin and you wont have to hunt for your kids.
