The one point that I hadn't really thought of is the one that Casey brought up and it is a good one. If the guys weren't gonna come down and ask then Joey should have gone up to introduce himself and at that point the whole thing probably never would have happened. At least then they probably would have thought twice about shooting at the rabbit if they weren't invited to do so. I am like Joey and was just brought up to be more respectful of others than that. I don't expect some guy to just run on the court when I playing a game of basketball with my buddies either..........most guys are nice enough to ask first even if it is at the public ball court.

Exactly,

Like Joey said, he didn't know these people, so my opinion is he should have went to them when he saw them coming. Not to go chase the rabbit, because after the fact he went to cut the rabbit off to shoot it, he lost track of the fourth hunter who slipped off and got into position. I am not trying to defend the second party invading Joey's hunt, but when Joey didn't do anything at all, whistle, holler, or just walk to them, the second party thought it was ok to join the hunt...

This might have been the second party's first hunt, hope it isn't their last. There are a bunch of uneducated ppl out in the world, that tries stuff by trial and error, doesn't make it right but some ppl do it that way. I don't get upset often unless someone is talking mean stuff about family and friends, other than that I keep my cool.

I just hope these people didn't get scared off and we last a couple more hunters.

Actually some people do think they are doing you a service by helping out in bringing a rabbit down and then giving the rabbit to you. Not all people kill rabbits just for the sport but some people actually eat them.

bunnyblaster, I don't believe it was an honest mistake, I believe it was an ignorant mistake, and everything that took place afterwards says so. Look at the evidence. Anyone who knew better, would of knew he was risking a confortation, sure he may reason that more people than not would not want to start something but we all know that there is a risk of it. If he did not care to take the risk then he certainly would not be concerned about confrontation. the evidence says that he did not want a confrontation, when one was presented he didn't mouth off or do anything to escalate the confrontation, I am quite certain he was relieved when it was over. I am sure he was somewhat embarrassed in front of what was probably his children. The man was ignorant.

I have decided to sell my dogs and just follow people with hounds around as they hunt public land. :D :D
Sorry couldn't help trying to inject some humor into this. Now maybe we can inject some life into this dead horse so we will quit beating it! :hammer:

Mr. Harner , evidently i was the only one who read his story , where do we begin , he was smoking dope while he was out poaching more than a legal bag limit of rabbits while tresspassing ! and im the one that is not a true houndsman ? i never claimed to be a houndsman , im a hunter , a legal hunter at that , i hope that every step back to the truck brought him pain and everytime he had to push in that clutch , like i said , i think he got off easy , now i can see his piont in this whole matter , if you confront someone while your hunting you better be careful because it just might be some slobbing criminal that is higher than a kite and illeagal in every way and they just might shoot you ! oh and by the way i wouldnt have done either , i would have had his a#$ arrested !

One question I have yet to hear answered is, was this public or private land being hunted on. The next thing that ALL of you agreeing with the verbal attack DO NOT take into consideration is that the guy shooting at the rabbit was within his full right to do so, NO laws were broken by him and that no one has any authority to accost another person, period. I suspect the hunter with his kids knew the LAW full well and that he was in accordance with it and he was right. What didn't happen with him that would have happened with me was how I would have reacted to the verbal attacker that harassed me and my kids in our lawful pursuit of game. When I was younger that irate verbal attack would have spawned my defensiveness and opened a can of whoop a$$ which I was a party to 30+ years ago where such a culprit was put in the hospital with 40 stitches in his head for the same type of verbal assault that arose while deer hunting. Now, with some age and experiance I would NOT allow such actions to go with such unanswered questions of what is right and what is wrong as many of you seem to have and would direct my time and efforts regardless of cost to reaching a more definitive conclusion. I've also learned that an a$$ whoopin only last as long as it takes to heal up as I've had them myself and the questions still go unanswered with nothing learned. When the law is involved the answers are definitive and more perminent as the consequences come with penalties that include fines, court cost, loss of hunting previleges and possibly jail time. In this case one party was within the confines of the law and the other one was in violation to which many of you do not and can not seem to see. The party thinking they were right is the one that was absolutely wrong and I would have put it to the test if I were the one involved.

i dont agree one bit , here in Ohio we have hunter harrasment laws , and if someone is following you around , disturbing your hunting by shooting rabbits your dog is running then this is harrasment , what makes the difference if it is public or private , we had a situation here " on public land " where the antis showed up at a youth deer hunt and would follow hunters around making noise , talking loudly and laughing ,while walking up and down hiking trails to spook game , even though it was a state park that is open to the public , every one of them was arrested for hunter harrasment , which was described by the park ranger as any activity that was done purposely to impead a hunter from pursueing game , this my friend falls into that catagory in my book , and ill bet any game warden out there would agree , might not issue a citation but ill bet he would advise them to not let it happen again and to move on !

(It goes on to state that possession or ownership of a wild game animal is had only when one kills that animal and until that point it is fair game to ALL.)

Maybe in Some states but not All. In the Northwest it is Law that IF you have Drawn Blood on a game animal and the trail can be followed that that game belongs to the person that Shot it As long as they have made a resonable effort to Follow it.
I Know this as fact because I won a case just on this evidence..

Now as far as the Question Goes YES I feel that Joey over reacted And here is WHY he should have At least Approached the other party as soon as he seen them!! To let them know What was going on. PERIOD!! THEN if they Did as he Said a butt chewing was in Order!! Pull the offending part aside and Explain that this was NOT approved behavior

Oh And Maple Valley
OUCH!!! Been there Done that!! Well Sorta ;)

Well the story is fact, I have always or should i say use to hunt hard enuff to kill 300-400 rabbits a year.Every year.I got tons of neat stories about how it used to be so sorry if i offended anyone, just sheding some humor on joeys ass chewing.Btw dog after i made it home i drank a pint of blackberry brandy called a chick over to take off my boot smoked another fattie and delivered all my rabbits cleaned of course to all my old buddies that love em. So even though i was stoned and drunk with a shattered ankle that still hurts at times i managed to do the right thang .Feed people That were to old to fend for themselves. Call it what you my my friend .I dont regret much when it came to hunting. I also made it a point one crisp sunday morning to go to the state capital in frankfort thats right i pulled right up to the big house let a dog loose and put her in the floral garden and kill me a rabbit, Pretty ball-see move but i laughed the whole way home.

You are probably right. Or after joey ripped him he may have decided he bit off a little more than he could chew??? Or he thought better of picking a fight in front of his kids?? You are right all we can do is make an educated guess based on what we are told happened. But I still don't think either way is wrong.........you do so we disagree.......I guess we'll just leave it at that.

Wardog, my answer to your question is what I think was said earlier by someone else. Just because it wasn't technically illegal doesn't make it right imo. On purpose or just an ignorant mistake it was extremely inconsiderate......again imo. It's not illegal to crowd up on guys in a boat or in a stream that are hammering fish but I don't do that either because it's just plain wrong..........hence the "unwritten rules" thing they started. And the last time I checked it is not illegal to yell or curse at someone either.......unless you can tell me what law it is that joey broke. I would also like to mention that you are probably correct in saying that if the law had been called I doubt any tickets would have been issued to the guy that did the shooting..........or joey for that matter. But I would also be willing to bet my bottom dollar that the officer would have had something to say to both of them about being a little more considerate of others. To the gentleman for squeezing in on joey's hunt and to joey for verbally accosting the gentleman. Do you disagree???

I find it very very hard to believe that most guys on here would not get upset about someone doing what this guy did regardless of whether he shot at the rabbit or not.

You guys crack me up!!!!!
