Eye Issue ?

Post by InTrapTrap »

I have a six month old pup with an eye issue. I'm told the tear duct is plugged up in one eye. Is this what they call Cherry Eye? In the inside corner of one eye you can see the red meat looks like swelling up. Can I use an ointment for this?

I would say this is cherry eye where the third eyelid is sticking out. I have heard of folks massageing them with a warm compress but from most experiances I've heard of, surgery is needed to correct.

If you catch it early enough cherry eye can be corrected with prednisone acetate (steroid anti-inflamitory) and massaging it back in place. There are videos that you can find on Google about this. Cutting it out can work, but leaves the dog prone to dry eye later in life. A vet can use stitches to hold it in place commonly referred to as "tacking."
