What is a Cheap Field Champ or a Very Good Field Champ

FC
IFC
FC Wins in all types of trials
FC With 10-20 wins
State High Hounds, BB
The biggest nose
The fastest hound

My really good hound listens and handles well, will hunt around me and you will see him from time to time. When he opens
on rabbit you will hear him clearly near by. He will hunt hard by himself alone or with other dogs. He can cold trail but must
turn it into a run in a few minutes. Once started he must keep it going slow, medium, fast but don’t loose the rabbit/hare
driving as fast as possible at all times. Never giving up and always keeping it going to the gun. His nose must be able to
handle all temperatures: cold, ice, snow, powder, dry. Without this dog I would not load my gun or think of driving one or
two hours to go hunting.
Very good FC Every year by mid or end of the trial season everyone knows the good and very good hounds of the year.
Some may take two or three years to finish but the very good ones will take one year or less. They are the ones you want
to get pups from.
Cheap FC You will also know the ones that may win or place but you wouldn’t take home for free or want a pup out of. No
nose, over runs, hit and miss, all drive and little or no check ability. When it rains or scent is high they will look great
driving in the front but when it takes brains and nose they will get picked up. Talk with people and ask judges and if the
first words out of their mouths are not “great hound, really good” read between the lines. They are just trying to be kind or
nice. Is this the next high hound or field champion? Scary, isn’t it? Yes, that mouthy, brainless backtracker who makes
checks but behind a clean running hound can win and will win. He will place or win one out of every four to eight trials and
get picked up in the rest. The beaglers in NY, MI, LA, OH see only the wins or places in Better Beagling and do not know
anything about the hound, just what they read. The owners only care about ribbons and getting their picture taken…how
sad.
They have the money and the time to go to all the trials so they pick up some extra places for FC or high hound. If
someone ran seven trials and gets six places and someone else ran twenty-seven trials and gets fifteen places, who is the
best hound?
FC With 10-20 wins One season I ran against a great FC with fourteen wins but my Trailmaster’s Matilda placed ahead of
her everytime!!!!! What does fourteen wins mean? Yes I still believe she was a great FC with fourteen wins.
IFC So many trials, judges, you have to give them all the credit they rightly deserve. If the IFC are unknown to you they
are generally a good bet to breed to or get a pup from.
Buddy judging FC Most states have them and we know who they are The champions that come out of buddy judging have
no value. What is worse: a. crooked judges, b. the guy who hires them, c. the beagler who runs his dogs under them.
Answer: b and c are the worse, without them there wouldn’t be any crooked judges. I will not run under anyone that I
believe to be or know to be a crooked judge.
FC With wins in all types of trial
Six wins, places in LP
Six wins, places in SPO
Six wins SPO, places LP
Six wins LP, places SPO
Two wins SPO-R, two SPO-H, two LPH
Which one do you think is a better FC?
Yes every year there are really good and outstanding hounds finishing for their FC. Who is the best, two outstanding FC
running in the brace can beat each other on different days and weather conditions. You must always breed or buy the
best hound you can for yourself. My expectations are brains, line control, check work, nose, driving ability, good mouth
and handling. You should never settle for less than the best and then try for better.
Happy hunting, good luck trialing Gene Tarsetti

The cheap Field Champions are the ones you own and the very good Field Champions are the ones I own.......

In all honesty why would any beagler try to downplay or discredit someones Field Champion. If a hound has competed in his respective format and met the requirements for its Champion title my congrats.

Just because someone doesn't like a particular style of hound or format doesn't take anything away from the hound. There are definately formats that promote a style of hound I wouldn't feed, but I would still say the champions deserve credit for their accomplishments.

Typically the guy casting stones at others Field Champions are either bitter because their dog can't finish or has never tried to finish a hound and has no idea the effort involve. I'm willing to wager that NOBODY with a Field Champion thinks thier champion is cheap or worthless.

I must be one slow sob because I have read the original at least 7 times and still can't figure out the reason for the rant and to be called an article there would have to be a purpose.

Obviously it took some time to write but I can't for the life of me figure out.....
1. If it is a question
2. If the author is jealous
3. If the author was wronged at a trial and is venting
4. If it is a joke

It seems like random mumbling that would come out of my mouth on the way home from a field trial where I just got spanked.

Never mind.....I give up, it is time to feed my Cheap FC, clean my ribbons, and memorize my current Better Beagling..Merry Christmas to all :D

I can't tell you about bloodlines or trials. Can't tell you about training a champion either. My dad raised BEAGLES when I was a kid. He usually had anywhere from 10-25 dogs at a time. And at one point had over 100 dogs. He sold all his dogs when I was about ten. But he says to this day the best hunting dogs he ever owned were some of the grade dogs he owned. And the best dog he ever owned was a female lemon colored grade dog that was given to him for free. So I wouldn't judge the value of a dog buy the price. Some of the best dogs you can get can be,bought for a few hundred dollars. Not everyone breeding dogs is in it for the money. Some people even give away great dogs to the right person. My dad gave away a lot of dogs to people just because he knew they would take care of the dog and knew they would hunt the dog. Real value is what you do with a dog not what you pay or sale one for. I'm not knocking anyone just my opinion!
