hope i can get an answer!

Post by bodetis »

got a dog last year, she bout a year and a half now. she performed great when i got her but was only able to hunt her a couple times last year due to season going out, but she was ran a few times over the summer. but had seen this dog run since she was four months old, she had always been a solid dog. now had her out today with five other dogs and she was completly messing the other dogs up, she was tongueing all the time like there was a rabbit but the other dogs would never hit when she did, or when the dogs would run one its like she would pull them off. we wasnt sure if it was scenting conditions or just her today so we put her on leash for a bit. needless to say the other dogs started hammering. so we put her in the box. now can some one please explain to me what is going on with this dog. gona try her a couple more times but she may have to go, just dont understand what happened to her!

Sounds like main issue may be lack of run time. Not trying to be a jerk with that answer, but the more exposure the more results. That is the way I always look at it. Then evaluate if you let them go. Is this a pack she is comfortable with? Maybe that as well. Good luck!

sounds like lack of run time, and you may need to have a vet visit to have her checked out. Could be worms, low iron, etc.....I wouldnt run her in a pack again until you figure out what it is.

How many dogs do u run at a time? Not trying to be a a$$ here but to much pressure can make the screws go loose in a hound!! Also just because she is kenneled with them don't mean she won't act crazy!! I myself would solo to find out if she will do it without another hound on the ground!! Best of luck but I would also say lack of run time and 9 months is a long time to be layed up!!

I'd single her out and hunt the fire out of her for a bit till ya see how she does on a rabbit alone. Then run her with company she's familar with.....Dog running dog will only be a problem.Sounds like she wants to run just sounds like she's trail"n dogs......Try single"n her out by herself.........

For one sounds like she been in a kennel most her life at this point...I wouldn't even lay up a finished dog for 9 months! Let alone a pup. Back to the basics my friend, solo, solo, pack,solo,solo,pack..... See what you can salvage, she may come back around.

I layed up my dogs 3 years ago when I built my house and I ruined some of them. The other some were ok but some were never what they once were! I learned my lesson that rabbit season.

Had a female that always got a little crazy before her heat cycle started. After cycle was over she would be normal again for six monthes or so.

I'm going to take a shot at this although it is confusing. It sounds like for 9 months she has been with your friends pack and only run several times during this time (you didn't say how she did during these hunts). It further sounds like that she was only run several times when you first got her at the close of gun season. Therefore, since she is 1 1/2 years old now, she would have been about 8 or 9 months old when you were first trying her out during the season (even though you said you had seen her run since she was 4 months old we don't know the quality of that effort). Now, during the ensuing 9 months, she has matured to the point that whatever hunting characteristics she was destined to have are beginning to show. Also, she may have a slightly hyper disposition which has got her a little addle headed during the lock down. I wouldn't solo her, I would keep running her with the pack as much as I can. Try using the TT tone and small shock to get her to settle down. Encourage her good qualities and discourage the bad. She should settle down after a few tries. If she doesn't improve to your liking in very short order, she will have to be moved. It takes work and effort to make a good dog. JMO

I like Bucks answer for the most part. I wouldn't worry much about the TT part if it was mine though just keep her running and would add they all can all be stupid and have their days, maybe it's her turn.
