Trip to Drummond

Post by wvrh31 »

I am heading to Drummond the 2nd week of November and this is my 1st trip. Could any one help a fellow out with some info.

What kind of weather should a fellow expect that time of year?

Do you need rubber boots, waders or will a good pair of Gortex boots work?

Do you need to take anything special as far as dog supplies(meds, etc..)?

Anything a fellow needs to look out for to keep him and his dogs out of trouble?

Thanks
Sandy

You can bet you will have some cold wet days, and some nice ones,I wouldnt go to the UP without my muck boots I bring 2 pr and a boot dryer.I bring a good pr of leather goretex 400gm boots, goretex hat and gloves and 2pr of gortex rain pants and jacket.I use military goretex cold weather rainwear I buy off ebay.If you have a tracking system or gps for the dogs by all means bring it and use it.You will need alot of shells unless your a better shot than I am, and a gun cleaning kit, lots of quality food for the dogs, tie outs are nice and a camara.Good luck and have fun Im leaving for the UP friday morning for a 8 day hunt.

If your going the 2nd week of November your timing may not be good.......November 15th is opening day of MI firearm deer season, and you can bet the orange army will be everywhere.

Not to hijack your thread but I also have a question.

What do you have to do to get a Non-Resident hunting license. Just bring your drivers license, and hunting license from your home state? Or is this there something else that you need.

Are there any Guides on Drummond or do you find State land and hunt there?

Hey frank

I will be up at my cabin till the 14th. If your not gunning everything that runs
I will point you In the right direction. No Secret spots or anything just the right direction
and no, you wont need a guide. As long as your dogs can jump there own, there
are plenty.
But as stated before gun season starts 11-15 and you will not get a warm
welcome from the locals at that time. at least for the first couple of days.
If interested shoot me a pm. Glad to help.

Thank Dennis, I won't be comming up this year maybe next year I would rather listen to the dogs running than kill a bunch.
