Dutch has been a house dog since he was 6 weeks old except for the year I spent in Afghanistan. The wife put him out in the kennel then......... Glad I'm rid of her, shoulda figured then she was no good

Dutch's strongest traits were hunt and endurance. He did as well as any for a house dog. I remember him getting his ear fully impaled while running a rabbit totally hung on a fence, roaring to get after that rabbit. He would have ripped it off had I not been so close. He was always the last in at the end of the day.

And he was fairly accomplished in trials too.

When I was a boy, pets were kept strictly out side. Kids were always getting ticks, lice, fleas and tapeworm from animals, so it was common that you got a "look-over" before you come in the house. I guess it just wasn't worth the added risk of bringing animals in when you was worried about what the kids carried in on themselves.
Animals always seemed happy amongst there own kind, I guess it was just me as a kid that wanted to play with them all the time and have them at my side.

Not trying to be a smart ass, but what do you house hound owners do about the extra hair, fleas, ticks, dirt, pee, worm excrement, worm eggs, etc. that gets all over the place. We had a Dalmatian once that stayed in the house and was totally trained in every way but he was a total nuisance and required constant upkeep for health problems and those listed above.

I don't think keeping a beagle in the house would affect his quality in any way but, I wouldn't want to live in a kennel with them or in my house which to me, is about the same thing.

Uh I like worm all my hounds regularly. Use comfortis for fleas and ticks. Dutch hasn't had an accident in the house for years, and he stays in the kitchen, which I sweep regularly. ;)

BBB
Beagle are the lowest maintenance dogs I have ever heard of. I do not have any issue with sheding, mine were house trained in a few weeks, I use heart guard for worms, and Front line for fleas and ticks. I have never had a problem with keeping them in the house with regard to these items. The biggest problem is I have to see them after they run in the summer when they look like this.

Which is why I give this one benedryl after being out on a day like today. He will only open his eyes to find his food dish, and go running again.

I forget to mention that I do give them a bath, once a year weather they need it or not.
