Garmin DC40

Post by birmi1nr »

Thought I would share a little info on DC40 collars from Garmin. Below is a response I got from them on a DC40 collar that I sent in (for the 3rd time) over a month ago due to poor reception with it.

"Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I am happy to help. Our engineers have pulled all DC 40 collars. These collars are being improved but they will not be shipped until the middle of August. I apologize for our delay. Please email me back if you have any other questions."

Not sure what everyone else thoughts are on the DC40's, but all of mine haven't preformed nearly half as well as my dc30's and others I run with have the same issues with theirs. I'm glad that Garmin is stepping up and trying to atleast solve some of the issues w/ the 40's, rather than just sending out another collar that will have the same issues as the one I sent in.

So if you have DC40 collars you can send them in and get the improved one ? Mine weren't very accurate last sunday morning but had been working fine the last few times I used them. Didn't run for about 3 months only used them about 8 times this summer seemed to be fine other than sunday.

I ordered this DC30 gps bonus special where you get a DC30 collar, the gps system together and an extra collar with it. The extra collar is going to be a DC40. As you all have said it was on backorder, I'm discouraged to hear that there is problems with the DC40 and hoping the one I will be getting in the mail works fine! I really am starting to enjoy the DC30 and hope the new collar is half as good!

I just got off the phone with Garmin concerning 2 DC-40's that I sent in and haven't received back. The lady told me that they have discovered a hardware issue with the 40's and don't know when they will be able to replace my collars. They had thought the problem was in the software, but now they have to fix the hardware. She said that they didn't have a date to start shipping the new 'improved' units, but they knew hunting season was coming up and were going to work hard on it.

I'm glad they're fixing the real problem with these, but not knowing when I'll get them back is aggravating. Hard to condition a pack of dogs with one old DC-30.

I was wondering why mine wasn't back too. Last time, I had it back in a week. This time, I don't know...but at least it 'should' work correctly. She did say that several people had collars that had been there for months while they fix the problem.

Why aren't they sending out DC-30's for loaners? :ashamed: I would be very ticked if I paid out over $1k for a unit and collars only to have nothing working...it's ridiculous. Garmin could easily step up and send out loaners, when DC40's are out contact everybody with a loaner and let them know they are ready....once the loaner comes back the DC40 ships out....all the loaners could easily be sold as refurbs when they come back, slap a new collar on them and sell them at a bit of a discount. For me if I was Garmin I'd be worried about folks jumping ship. Then again after everybody got the DC30's they'd probably just want to keep them, they work great.

Well, apparantly the lady didn't know what she was talking about. I just got an e-mail saying that my replacements were shipped this afternoon. Hopefully, they'll have fixed the problems permanently.

Dean,

Do you have them on the 5 second update, 10 or 30? It does make a big difference.

Must be Garmin thinks they have the issue resolved b/c I just got an email that my replacement shipped out Friday after 2 months of them having it. We'll see when I get it back.
