We use federal 3" shells in a 15 in bbl Ihave the Pachmayer grips as i see
a lot have, makes it more comfortable shooting
I use 6 shot mostly 5 if i can get them My friend uses 4 and swears by them

I use one of the original Contenders with a 16" barrel and have shot cottontail, swampers and snowshoe hare with it. The long barrel gives it a little more reach and it sure is fun.
