Wanted Patch Hounds
We run our hounds on fox and coyote.
We are looking for strong hounds with speed and endurance. We have mostly hare hound breeding looking to cross it up with some good strong Patch breeding. We want big hounds that have plenty of hours under them to run. We want female puppies. If you have what we are looking for email me or call me

There is a good ole boy right there in your neck of the woods that has exactly what you are looking for. I have no idea if any are for sale but he has a big stout stud hound out of Pride x Julie, thats the one you want to breed too or try to get pups out of. Julie was a great linebred Hammer IV gyp that was 15.5" & been told by 3 witnesses she pushed cutters through the swamps like a dose of salts through a widow woman. She came straight from Mr. Cleve who was one of the late Mike Yates hunting buddies so you know it was the right stuff.

Hey Proffessor,
I talked with Billy back about April & he still has the Chet dog & about 20 other Patch hounds. He spends a lot of time in Florida on a federal reserve, runs deer & just has a great time. He told me this past spring, nothing could compare to standing on the tailgate watching 15 white hounds drive a white tail.
He has raised some out of Chet & some out of Blazin & one other blue eyed male he has but the name escapes me.
I would say by the age, the hound talked about is out of Blazer or Blazin, I forget what he calls him.
I got a call Thanksgiving week of 01 from Mr Yates asking me to help out his old buddy Billy Parchman, so I sent him a bred female. I let him raise the pups & have them all as long as he brought me back a female & the mother of course, the sire was Mr. Blazer Patch & I know he was partial to a pup from them he named Blazen or Blaze. He is an outstanding person & he brought the dogs back to the house, laying on a towel, in the back seat of a big cadillac, I knew he was my kind of folk.

Hey Grip,
Thanks for the info...
Hey Plow,
You got a good memory.
You remember in early 2000(maybe Feb.-March), when I told you about Mike Yates and how to get ahold of him. Then in August, you told me you were going to save Mike's breed. Remember the high phone bills and the aggravation of talking to Leroy and trying to run down a red Yates male to start your breeding with.
Ahh, those were the good ole days, eh...Patch

Yes I do remember & I am glad I got to know him so well before he passed & Leroy has died since with cancer, we just never know. I also remember going to London Ky to meet Elmer Mckinney & Winton Angel in 1985 to pickup them first ones. I had only been out of highschool a couple years. Boy if I knew then what I know now. Guess we would all like to go back once in a while.
Yes, I was shocked to hear about Leroy. When we picked up Lilawana Patch, Leroy spoke of the farm he had bought and in a short time would retire and be able to run dogs every day. It tells us not to pass up the opportunities of enjoying life today, while working for tomorrow.
All the best my friend...Patch

Well, I didn't know the dates like I thought I did after checking my records I actually got the first of the Mikes Copper Patch blood in September of 98 from John Lehner in PA & started the crossing on the West River Patch blood I had previously. Time sure flies & people pass quickly, we sure should treasure the time we have.
I need to go see Elmer & Mossie they are getting up in yrs also & I will regret not seeing them if something was to happen to either of them.
Best Regards,
Plowboy

Yes, John had said, he sold you Linus in 98'. Said he was to conservative for the cottontails of Pa, he must have been alot like his sister Lilly, the hound I sold you. He said, you wanted to slow them down.
So the West River Patch was what you were crossing onto the Bredemier(Pearson Creek) hounds up untill that time. I remember you talking about(in 2000) some of those crossed hounds you were having success with in the ARHA trials.
John said, he had sold Lucy to another fellow in Pa. in 2000', so you must have got her and Lilly(april 2001) close to the same time?
Lucy must be more like the Yates bitches of Claybaugh's, good little cottontail hounds. When he bred Hot Patch Hard Rock(Royal Falcon X North Wind Spirit) to them, it made them get up and go...lol
Tell Elmer & Mossie, I said hello if you see them...Patch

Linus & Lucy run pretty good together, they are worlds apart from Lily as far as speed goes. The main goal in my program is not to get slower footed hounds but to get gears in them so they can blast when able & work it closer when unable. I want them to concentrate more on the rabbit & not in racing each other as hard & of course not hurt the hunt that goes with the Patch line. The 2 fastest footed hounds I own are out of Linus, one from another full Yates bred older female(now 10 yrs old) that is mostly Ladds Capper Patch bred from Hammer IV. I call Dolly, she is 18 mos old. The other is the first pup I got from Linus & a female named Bonnie who was Daltons Big Hooter x Tusseys White Lady bred, her name is Rhonda. But the good thing about there speed it is not wild slashing speed but level headed front end speed. Thats hard to explain but I think you probably know what I mean. The boys you know in KY have seen Dolly run before, I go up & hunt with J.B. a couple times a year he can tell you her style.
Speaking of Claybough, he has e-mailed me & plans to bring a female down this fall (if she cycles, on schedule) to breed to Linus. Isn't he the guy who started you in the Patches back in the mid-nineties? He Seems like a class act. What lines were you fooling with before you went the Patch direction?
