All he wants to do is hunt. He is soft mouthed and has caught me rabbits, live. He points quail if he's not on the trail of rabbits but I've not known him to run deer.
Here's the thing. When we got him I didn't think we were getting this much dog. But he is all hound and he wants to WORK. I've learned enough about hounds to realize how ignorant I am and that he could be an amazing dog in the hands of somebody who knew what they were doing with him. Because I just can't work him like he should be worked, I haven't the knowledge or the time. And he's flat out unhappy being nothing but a pet and getting taken for a run in the back field once a week. So he keeps taking himself hunting. He has his flaws, but everyone who sees him tells me they wish they had one just like him 20 years ago when they hunted bunnies.
So I'm looking for someone who loves hounds for the stubborn, dominant, hard-headed, soft-hearted, gritty things they are who wants to give a try to make something of him. He's a good dog, he's a house dog now, and I've got a farm, kids, cats, chickens, ducks, pigs, goats, you name it, he's good with it. If the rabbit is in a cage or in the house it's mine and he leaves it alone. If it is outside on the ground it is HIS to catch and he will. He knows what an e-collar is and your basic commands.
I'm not going to let him go to just anyone. Come meet him, see him run, call and ask me questions. I want it to be a good fit. And I'd like to hear about him once in a while and a promise that if he ever can't be kept or doesn't work out he comes back here. He has a home for life here. But he's a working dog and a working dog needs to work and I can't give him work, so if you can work him, talk to me.
