Househounds, no it does not cover all tick diseases, it is actually a modified or dead form of lyme disease they inject. Think along the lines of a flu shot, once you get the shot you will not get the flu, IF IT IS THE SAME STRAIN THAT YOU GOT THE SHOT FOR, you can still get another. It is a good preventive but not 100%, I would say in Joeys case was not lyme, as I am sure they did blood work, and there are many diseases from ticks there are no vaccines, also not every dog that gets lyme disease will show illness or die, there are usually other factors as well. I would recommend the shot ,but keep in mind ,prevention is best defense.
I use farnam horse fly & tick drops, $16.00, will last 6-8 dogs for 3 months, also mix with water, and spray prior to hunt, and sevin dust after each hunt, and sponge dip 1X per month with dip .

BMK,
Good info. Thanks for the reply. I have read that ticks are getting worse in some areas, as more woods are being cut down, and the concertration is higher in many areas now.
thanks

househounds, i did not know answer to your question and talked to others about it and they said the samething as bellmore. I just want to take the extra mile on my dogs and lyme disease. what i stated in an earlier post is what im doing and it may not be the complete answer but it has to be better than nothing. i have seen tick since late winter and this year is the worse i can remember in recent times but as someone else said all we can do is try to do prevention.

ya, I was hopin that blizzard & extreme cold we had for awhile would help with the ticks, but I don't think it even fazed them. I use Frontline Plus, & i still pick a few off their ears & face. not too happy about that. :angryfire:

I put Pine chips mixed with a small amount of ceder chips, a hand full of sevens dust in my boxes, I added a purple cattle tag to each dogs collar and have yet to see a tick or flea on any of them.... :D , I have found 4 ticks on me so far and 2 on the wife but nothing on the dogs, so far so good

Ticks are terrible this year in NC already found 5 on me bit in, in the past 3 weeks. Don't worry watching the spots closely. Was coon hunting last night and pulled 13 off of me. Every couple minutes i would turn my light on and look at my legs and flick em off. I had deep woodsman 100% deet on also. I ordered some duranon today many of my buddies say it works like magic.
Opportunity is missed by many because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

I am in Indiana, and ticks have been insane. i have picked off at least 100 ticks in the last couple months even with tick meds. Where can i get that sevens dust at?
