racoon creek kennels you are exactly right in my opinion if the dogs to big put them in the briars where the rabbits are and then if they out run you shake their hand and tell them they have a bad ass hounddog i like to see them dont care what size they are all dogs are different if they were the same what would be the point of having a field trial

Why even call it a beagle trial then? Let's throw any dog down, any, height, any shape, size etc....and run a trial. Come on! If you want a 15 plus dog to run take up coon dogs. The rules are the rules and a beagle is 15 or less. Period!

sanfordssj wrote:only problem i see with this is guys will then breed to stretch the new height limit.....Lets say the big class is 15" to 17" max. You will see guys breeding and trying to get there blodline to 17 1/4". Everyone likes to stretch the rules and this particular stretch would be BAD for the breed.

Re: NEW DIVISION FOR OVER 15 INCH BEAGLES
there already is a division in NKC that you can runn hounds 16" and under...that is big pack. the rule was amended several years ago to include 15+ inch hounds.

I believe some of yall are hitting the main downfall of a oversized hound class. And that is exactly what has already been said, guys will try and try to push the limit an end up doing more harm to the breed than good. If you think about it its kinda how we got to this subject in the first place.

I think it's just another way for NKC to make money. They should just leave it the way it is now instead of trying to make more money with everyone buying a card. If NKC adds another class just more paper work for all the clubs and more prizes we have to buy. Also be harder to get a taril done in one day. But as long as NKC making who cares what clubs and the members have to do. My opion it should have been voted on at the world hunt. I say we just leave it the way it is right now.

Re: NEW DIVISION FOR OVER 15 INCH BEAGLES
i say just do away with the size limit! i dont care if you do have a 20in hound if its not on its game they will get there a__ kicked by a 13in. its just as unfair to have to run a 13in against a 15 as it would be for the 15s to run bigger ones! every time ive seen a dog contested it wasnt because of the bettering of the breed it was just an exscape route for a chickens__t that new the hound could get it done! i dont like big dogs and would never breed for 16in or bigger but im sure not scared to put my 14s down with anyone in a trial! pleasure running is a defrant story cause the good big dogs would have to have more stamina.its so funny to watch at a trial if the oversized hound is not known he wont get measured out until after the first round or two then the word gets out what a hound it is,and then whinners starts wanting them measured! if your that worried about the "bettering of the breed" then measure them as soon as they call the dogs to the cast for the first time b4 they run! ive yet to see an awsome hugh dog that could get under the thick stuff and jump rabbits like the small ones and jump strikes is hard to overcome, exspecially if the small dog can ck well too!

Re: NEW DIVISION FOR OVER 15 INCH BEAGLES
If the dogs that run in the class for disqualified dogs are spayed or neutered then I think it could be a good idea. Since they are oversize and are not ideal for breeding why not get em fixed and go ahead and run them. Many of us have trained a young dog and then had it go oversize. Someone ends up with a wonderful rabbit dog from all our effort. Would be neet to be able to compete with em first and possibly even earn a title. I even believe the dogs that finish should count toward the sire and dam's reproduction record. Just an idea. Would not do anything to promote oversize dogs for breeding purposes but an oversize class does have appeal!

Re: NEW DIVISION FOR OVER 15 INCH BEAGLES
NKC needs to promote large pack by having more clubs, then you don't need another class. That way I can run my oversized dogs close and not have to drive 3 hours to a hunt. I can go to 6 different little pack clubs with in 1 hour from my home. Keep the limit at 15 with no extra classes. Nkc would make more money and we can too by being able to sell over 15 dogs for more money. Thats my 2 cents.

who ever said that just because it's 15-16-or17 inches it's not a beagle, just because it went over don't make it a coon hound like some of u think.like he said if u cant run with the big dogs stay home on the porch,if i get beat by a better hound then i just got beat,

Re: NEW DIVISION FOR OVER 15 INCH BEAGLES
I think they should leave it alone. If u afraid of inch or two STAY HOME. Dont matter of the size of the dog its the size of its heart. How many dogs got measured at the world hunt? I didnt hear of any. ThE NKC and the board members should thake a look at that. Its all abouy money.May be we need to start a new format MO HOUNDS.HAHA

Beagle=Look Em Up!!!!
A miniature Foxhound, solid and big for his inches, A merry Little hound with the wear-and-tear look of the hound that can last in the chase and follow his quarry to the death.
They are also favored for their compact size
the diminutive size of the hound.
Description
The Beagle is an easy-to-care for dog, as it is a small and sturdy hound
Since these dogs are uniform in size and quite small,
The word "Beagle" is derived from the French word "beguele" meaning "open throat". The French or Welsh term "beag" means small,
Funny in EVERY DESCRIPTION Of the BEAGLE I have never seen the Word LARGE.
now the ENGLISH Standard is 16" but this Aint ENGLAND it is the USA and the AMERICAN standard is 15" and they are BEAGLE FIELD TRIALS
ya Want em Over GET a HARRIER!!!!
