Ticks

Post by Wild Ridge »

My Mom had me eat a spoon of sulfer each spring and another mid summer to keep the chiggers off us kids. I don't know if it worked but it seemed to make Mom happy.

When I was a kid, you just picked a tick off ,smashed it with a rock and went on, Now when I get a tick on me it makes a sore that don't seem to get well for months and months.

My questions are) 1. is there any thing you can eat or take that will keep ticks off ?
2. What is the best way to doctor the sore after you get a tick off ?

Tuckin pants in socks/tuckin shirts in works like a charm for me as well.I use Sportsmans repel 40% deet on socks/boots and around waistline.I find the occasional one crawlin but Ill take one crawlin over havin to pull one anyday..on a side note if you pull ticks out and have a sore for a month(s)you might wanna make sure heads not still in it.Dont think ive had a sore last more than a week or 2.Not scratching them might help.

I spray my clothes with repel (permanone) clothing & gear insect repellent . do not apply to skin. I also use it when turkey hunting. can set in the woods for hours and no ticks. can be bought at wal-mart

i've tried everything from deepwoods off to permanon to cutters and some do slow them down some but none of it works 100% we have big dog ticks smaller ticks with a white speck then a smaller one then that then what alot of us around here call seed ticks or turkey ticks that are smaller then a grain of pepper, and all of them are alful right now and it is early. but the best product i have found to be very close to 100% effective is called COULSTON'S DURANON TICK REPELLENT.....there address is COULSTON'S PRODUCTS INC.P.O.BOX 188 SAFETY HARBOR FL 34695..this product work's better then anything that u can get at walmart i can only find it at a little sporting good store in bardstown..do not spray this on your skin it's for your close only it will burn your skin....

permanone works best for me also.Spray on your clothes not your skin. It will keep ticks and turkey mites off you.I found the best price at drugstore.com

Thanks houndsmen. I am being eat alive this year already. I am a freckle face person so that give them tick a chose between dark or light meat . Like eating turkey on thanksgiving.
I pull the ticks off with twezers but they still make sores that last fo months.

I'll try all the chemicals that was called out.

Wait until Alabama John weighs in. The garlic thing will help repel them. I am sure he has got a solution for the welt that they sometimes leave.
