The Cheapest "Best" Dog Food

Post by KesslerBeagles »

I don't want anybody to think that I don't care about my dogs by not giving them the best when I ask this question, but the truth is money is tight! I can't afford 45.00, 60.00 and 75.00 a bag for dog food. That to me is nuts. I love my dogs, but I have bills to pay and a baby to feed and I just can't do it.

What is the cheapest food with the best quality? Or the best food at the cheapest price, however you want to word it.

I would say for the price compared to quality, Southern States Complete Sport is hard to beat, 24/20 40# bag is 14.99. If you buy 10 bags at a time they will take off a dollar a bag, so that would bring it down to 13.99 a bag.

I feed hi standard 26/18. ($21-$23/bag). Previously I had problems and have tried several kinds of feed. Red flanel and sport mix also worked well for me. I also found out that during winter months to feed more because they burn energy staying warm. Makes sense so I tried it, only problem was most of it was goin right through them. Then someone told me to water it down, that it would soften it up and make it easier to digest. Seemed to work since there was less to cleanup. Now it's warming up there isn't a need for extra calories. A lot of problems people have with the cheapest of foods is the ingredients and mess. They say corn and other products don't have the same digestibilty as meats. It would be my hypothesis that if you softened the cheaper food up that it would digest easier enabling you to get better results off the same feed. May not make that big of a difference but I'd think it be worth a shot.

Kessler-
Not sure where at in Ohio you are, but there is a guy that sells food called Kenny O's here in SW PA. Had my dogs on it for a couple months now and their shedding is basically non existent any more (they're inside dogs), less stool and coats are really shiny. It sells for about $20 for 50 lbs. Mine are doing well on it and have alot of energy. Formulated for all life stages, had my pup on it at 6 months and feeding a 2 year old also.

Just throwin it out there for ya, my cash is tight also like everyone elses with 2 hungry kids to feed also.

The food is a little higher here but that dog food seemed to do good when we fed it.

Old Roy high protein 27/15
$20 50-55lbs.
Walmart
fed it for years with good results.

Retriever high protein 26/18
$20 50-55lbs.
Tractor Supply
fed for a few years, good results.

*Right now I mix Sportmix 26/18 with Old Roy 27/15
1/2 and 1/2
It seems to be work better than anything i've tried.
They hold their weight, little clean-up, and have plenty of stamina.
Plus i'm not breaking the bank!

to each his own,
LPB

200 - 300.00 stud fees 200-300.00 on pups drive all over the country to breed to the next best stud available- at 3.50- 4.00 per gallon 1000.00 plus on GPS Tracking systems, a grand on a nice kennel setup, throw on 4-5 C-notes for a full size diamond plate dog box and probably a couple more for handsomely embroidered jackets with nice lettering for your truck to match. This way when you go down to buy your load of the "best cheapest" morsel's that .10 cents a pound can buy everyone can see how a true professional does it! Im still an amature myself.

showtime made by same folks that make ultra. 19.60 per 50 lb omega 6 and omega 3 fatty acids, chelated minerals. Very little waste, dogs love it and look good and have plenty energy.
