Go watch dogs run before you decide, don't just decide on the dog because it has IFC in front of it's name.

I've been running a 9 month old 15" male out of IFC Beavercreek Blue Max x Branko's Wham Bam (Branko's One Tuff Ombre -x-Branko's Dixie Chick [ out of IFC Branko's Heli Prop and a Branko/Pacesetter bitch] )

He is a very nice young male. Has good hunt, good foot , line control, honest mouth, works a check well , handles well , packs well. So far I've seen not one fault. I prefer 15" dogs . I believe I got the biggest , or at least one of biggest ,males out of this liter. Max is 13" and Wham Bam is a 15" bitch. I wouldn't hesitate to breed to this little male. Plus not long ago Ernie Weir (owner of Max) advertised in Better Beagling(Sept. 2010 issue) a free stud to Max and FC Weir's Ready Rock Ripper. Not sure if this is still available, but certainly worth looking into for a double ninja bred IFC. If a man is willing to stud his male out for free , I would say he is certainly not in these little hounds for nothing but pleasure and wanting to better the breed. Hats off to Ernie for that.

I'm sorry that you had a bad experience . I don't know Ernie personally. Maybe his free stud add was an attempt to make amends or show his character.Seems honorable to me to offer this. I've never dealt with a stud servicing. Not sure what the normal dealings are but I've seen many an add that require payment at time of service. Not saying who's right or wrong here , but to me , you pay for a "shot of seed" from a stud .May not be the fault of the stud that the female did not take.In fact I believe there is a test you can get from your vet that tells the optimum time to breed a female. This brings a good point up for guys who do a lot of studding of their dogs. What is normally expected if a female does not take after a breeding, or is this something that is normally discussed before the breeding.Should there be a refund or is it up to the female's owner to know when she's ready?

Also , other things to consider are miscarriages or other problems such as this. Certainly not the fault of the stud in some cases. Again , I'm sorry for your bad breeding experience Steve. I would assume you've had conversation with Ernie on this , but it would be interesting to know how he responded when you informed him she didn't take. Was he at least apologetic ?

The stud agreement that I use is cash up front, at least two pups. If less than two, or if she doesnt take we breed it again. Most stud agreements dont give you a refund! You have the option of breeding a second time. I would only refund if the female didnt take, and the stud dog can NOT be used (health, death, etc...) I have also seen the third option of breeding to another stud from the same kennels. You can run a search online for stud agreements if your wanting to see them.

Here at Lynair Kennels when you use one of our stud dogs you do not pay until pups are born. We like to keep it simple. NO PUPS - NO PAY! If only one living pup then you pay half the stud fee. Bitch must go to our vet for Bruc test which is $27.00 at this time. We may keep the bitch here for a few days until she has been bred. We like to have her bred twice to increase your chances of having pups and our chances of receiving a stud fee. We very much want you to have pups. We are not here just to take your money. You can spend a day or two running our dogs or run our dogs with your dogs. If you don't like the way the dogs run then don't bred. If you do, then bred and pay when the pups are born. We like to keep it simple. George

Always get money up front! What if a guy breeds his female and just doesnt tell you she had any? You will have a litter of grade (AKC) dogs, but with the single registery in UKC, and NKC anyone can register a pup......just something to think about. In a perfect world I would agree with No pups, No pay, but the beagle world is far from perfect.

Nice post!
