Diamond Dog Food

Post by FreeHoller40 »

Just wondering how good it is and which kind some folks use. I have been using the Pride dog food but the local stores have stoped selling it around here. I was just wondering what els is another good feed that works well. I would have liked to try the black gold but I would have to drive an hr away to get it... :angryfire: I dont know what to use... I used Purina before and havent liked it and I used pedigree and it seemed like it wasnt giving my dogs the enegry they need. I dont mind spending a few extra bucks on quality foods... What do you all suggest is the better quality food with that wont drain my dogs energy and doesnt give them such a lose stool like ole roy does... ???

Shane, I use Sportmix 24/20 in the black bags. I get it at the feed store in Fairfield. Good food, little stool and a good price.

I use the diamond geen bag or the black bag professional, which is 30/20. Also if there is a costco near you, the professional formula they sell is made by diamond and same as the green bag and costs $22 per bag. Overall it is pretty good, much better than ole roy, I have also used that before, the brown bag, it did put wieght on dogs, but alot of stool. There are alot of foods out there, Proplan is pretty good, but can be pricy, do not like Iams and uekanuba. Try to pick a food that is locally available, and has meat or chicken as first ingredient .

I've switched to diamond naturals 26-16(chicken & rice) in 40 lb. bags a few months ago .So far I like it real well. No complaints.Very little stool and it is firm. It has no corn , soy , wheat, no bi-products. It is pricey at most places. One local feed store sells it by the bag for $29.99.I believe at TSC it's around $26ish a bag. Luckily another feed store close by sells by the pallet and they come out to $21.7? (just under $22). If you don't mind the corn in your food they offer other mixes that I would bet to be cheaper.

It's all good. I have a litter of pups that didn't seem to have a good appetite. I was in Wal Mart so I decided to buy a a bag of Ol Roy high protein dog food. The pups loved it and are as fat and slick as any litter that I have seen.
I know it's junk, but the pups don't know it. ;)
I've fed Diamond and had good results. I now feed my hounds Sports Mix and they are all healthy looking dogs.

I started using Diamond chicken and rice a little less than a year ago due to wanting to feed my dogs something better than soy and wheat and 'fillers'. The guy at tsc said it makes dog's fur shinier and helps with the waste. He said when you feed dogs more fillers like corn, soy, wheat (dont know how true it is but the tsc guy said that some coompanys use saw dust as fillers) and dogs poop more and absorb less nutrients. Having a kennel of four dogs, I've noticed it's helped with the waste and I don't mind paying a little extra for food that's good for them.

I feed Diamond Proformance, have tried most of the Diamond stuff, my dogs do best on this one. I dont see large ammonuts of stool and they have tons of energy, good coats and I can keep weight on them. I have tried a lot of other brands and I was just not impressed, I know others have differing openions, but I like it.

Diamond Naturals, chicken and rice, small breed puppy and extreme athlete for when I pound them hard. Found a place that gives me a pretty good quantity discount. Extreme Athlete is some pretty good stuff and you feed less of it as well.

We have been feeding Diamond Naturals Chicken & Rice formula for the past 6 months or so and have been very pleased with it. Firm stools, good coats, healthy hounds.

I use the diamond hi energy in the winter and love it, but my dogs seem to get hot during the warmer months, so I switch to formax competion and I love it... they always have explosive energy and look great on it.

Diamond Naturals Chicken and Rice is the way to go. If your running in very cold temps alot the Extreme Athlete is awesome at keeping weight on any dog. I bought a male that was well malnutrioned put him on the Extreme Athlete and it didnt take long for him to be in the shape where he could run.

Shane, I do feed it year round but in the summer when my hounds don't get run quite as much, I do have to cut it back some. Mine do really well on it but each hound is different so you need to adjust accordingly.

We feed CMF. Chustnut Moutain Dog Food. http://chestnutmountainfeed.homestead.com/ . We have fed diamond, pride, black gold, sportmix, and all brands but we keep going back to CMF. They are located in Va. and our hounds do wonderful on their food. If you can't find it locally, contact Phill on the website and he can help or his daughter Tina is very helpful and knowledgable. We feed the 24/20. It is meat based with no soy and no wheat midds. We pay $21 for 50# right now.
