A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)
For my birthday i just got a Mossberg 500 20 guage youthmodel (cause im short and everything lol). I hope to do some more rabbit hunting next year... I think a six shot is great, but my dad swears by a four... but ive heard a lot of people say a seven or eight? Especcially in thick cover. I think I'll stick with my sixes.

Thompson Center Encore with 15" barrel. # 8 seems to hold a better pattern but #6 gives a little more range. Just picked up a mossberg 410 pump with a 26" barrel but have not used it yet.
SUCCESS- When preparation and opportunity cross paths!
I love my savage over and under...22 mag over a 20 gauge... with a nice scope and see thru sights. I usually carry it on 20 gauge trigger when we are walking incase we jump a grouse or ringneck but when the dogs start running i switch to the 22 mag and wait...love those long shots when the bunny stops and sits up and looks back for the dogs...KAPOW..its over in a blink and no pellets in the bunny. trust me I miss a lot but when the snow is on the ground i get WAAAAYYYY more then i miss. When its strictly rabbit hunting i take my 22 pump or a tube fed 22 bolt action....love the smaller calibers
20 ga. Stoger side by side and # 6 shells low brass. Gun is modified and improved, shots are normally pretty close. Have used the same gun for 20+ years. What I like about a double is you can carry it open over your shoulder by the barrel. You don't have to worry about any accidents while in thick cover. When the rabbit gets up find a spot drop in 2 shells and your good.
