Looks like to me he didn't get no tape on the end where it is needed. Joey, do you have problems in your area with your dogs tail being tore up. In your videos it looks like pretty easy running for the dogs tails. Of course our spo dogs do a lot of ceremonial tail wagging and that increases the drain of energy and blood loss.lol

It doesnt look too bad. If I have a dog that doesnt get this, I wont have it for long. Its the sign of a good hunting dog.

good luck hunting :)

Not offense but that isnt BAD. I've got 11 hounds in my kennel and dont have one tail that looks that GOOD! I have one that bleeds ALOT and i put gluestitch on it before I run her and seems to work well. Seals it up tight.
Take your kids huntin and you wont have to hunt for your kids.

My males tail looks a little worse than that and it's gonna be either dock it or tape it every time we go out. His sides are red within the first 30 minutes or so no matter what we're hunting in. And laying him up doesn't take care of it either, it'll just go right back the way it was after the first or second hunt back out. I hate to dock tails but that may be what I end up doing.

Dock it then b/c once the tail gets to a certain point it's just all scar tissure and tears open easily and never heals right again. so you really only have one choice cointinuously put the dog up to heal or have it docked. Good luck trying to find a vet that actualy understands why you would do such a cruel thing to ur pretty beagle that was my prblm look for a vet that other rabbit hunters use.

You guys that dock them yourselves..............

What bands do you use? Where do you get them? And how do you put them on?

Also do you just go down to where the raw meets the hair? A little above that? A little below that?

I just docked 2 tails this winter.

Tractor Supply sells the bander and the bands.
I use the green bands.

For the tail length:
I take and run the tail down along the dogs back leg.
I place the band where it meets with the leg joint.

Tail tip should fall off within 2 days - 2 weeks.

Works great!

This is what we used to do, my vet suggested it actually. Then our state passed a law we are not allowed to dock tails after a pup is 3 days old...Unless done by a vet, now my vet applies the bands when needed. :approve:

I have also had a couple done surgically and they took forever to heal, never did look as good as the tails that were banded.

that is crazy to think that the state can step in like that. How do they know if a vet does it or you ? do you have to keep a statement from the vet stating it was done by them ?
