Half Brother/Sister Cross??

Re: Half Brother/Sister Cross??
Good post LPB. If you study pedigrees closely you will see it in many dogs from years ago and today. I am confident if I get to make the cross there will be a couple decent hounds out of it. We'll see!
Re: Half Brother/Sister Cross??
In one of your earlier replies you said "mybeagles wrote:
First let me clarify that I don't have anything against Branko bred dogs as your statement seems to suggest. Secondly, I have recently reviewed several of the Branko pedigree's and I don't see much INBREEDING, there is plenty of linebreeding but most of the time its not real tight. He has possibly the largest beagle kennel in the world. Just because they are all branko hounds doesn't mean he is inbreeding which is the topic here! I never thought there was a shortage of Branko hounds for sale![]()
I havent followed many of Branko's pedigree's lately, can anyone confirm or deny that he is consistently inbreeding??"
Which is it, are familiar with Branko"s peds or not??? I think not, because if you were you would see both linebreeding and inbreeding to various degrees. The topic here is half brother half sister crosses which IMO falls somewhere between line breeding and inbreeding.
My comment about Branko hounds for sale on the for sale boards was in regards to the ones that come from his kennel in Manitoba. You don't see many of those up for resale. Not like you do from the internet STUD of the month.

You have stated that you have gone through hundreds of outcrossed pups over the years????? You don't make much sense
Didn't think I needed to spell it out but....You are continuously promoting best to best outcrosses in your search for a great hound. You have said that you have gone through over a hundred pups and have still not found what you are looking for. If I where you I would try a new method. I would give a beagle to basset cross a try. I hear they have turned out some amazing rabbit hounds over the years.mybeagles wrote:Not sure where your going with this comment, but it doesn't make much sense or seem to have anything to do with the post. Just for your info, I would go through lots of pups wether I was outcrossing, linebreeding, or inbreeding because thats what I enjoy doing. I have given away or sold for a reasonable price many young dogs and you will never hear a complaint on here because if the buyer is ever unsatisfied I make it right.
[/quote]mybeagles wrote:Not sure why it bothers you so much that I have "gone through hundreds of outcrossed pups over the years"......does is bother you that Branko has gone through thousands, and maybe ten's of thousands. It sure don't bother me........get a life, and you wont have to worry about how many pups I've gone through!
I think I answered this one in the above paragraph. I am curious to know if Branko told you he has gone through that many hounds, while cleaning up his gene pool, or is that something you made up to help your stance. BTW when you have gone through "thousands" do you think you will have your own strain of hounds or still trying best to best looking for that great one?

Re: Half Brother/Sister Cross??
I didn't say I have not found what I'm looking for. I said I enjoy training and raising pups, and I have been much happier with the pups out of outcrosses than I have been with inbred ones. Please don't judge me, you have never met me, and are basing your conclution on some internet chatter.......You are continuously promoting best to best outcrosses in your search for a great hound. You have said that you have gone through over a hundred pups and have still not found what you are looking for.
I don't have a precise # and my comment may have been to presumptuous to make a point. I have heard from two different sources that visited his kennel that he has a significant pile for culls. Do you honestly believe he would be in business today if he wasn't culling regardless of his breeding methods?I am curious to know if Branko told you he has gone through that many hounds, while cleaning up his gene pool, or is that something you made up to help your stance.
I will always have 2-4 of the best I can come up with regardless of how many I go through. Going through pups has more to do with the thrill of raising a pup, seeing it start, and making its first couple circles. It's really not about being discontent with whats being produced. I purchase most of my pups from the "experts", but I am going to be crossing some of the best to the best and enjoy what comes out of it.BTW when you have gone through "thousands" do you think you will have your own strain of hounds or still trying best to best looking for that great one?
I hope your getting everything you want out of your kennel, from Branko, or where ever you resource from. If your working on a line of dogs through inbreeding, I hope you create one of the best, and if time and circumstance permits I will bring your best into consideration for breeding one of my best bitches!
I think LPB had the best quote of this thread........
I personally don't think your being very selective if you do your breeding within a 10 dog kennel, but if your getting the results your after, more power too you. I'm not as dead set against linebreeding as you may think, I just try to bring a reality to check when the tables become very one sided.......If the tables were heavily tilted in favor of outcrossing, I may bring out some of the logic behind linebreeding, although I think my tough skull will always prefer outcrossing, trying to improve on my selection technique.Breed the best to the best... whether its outcrossed, line bred, or inbred. Selection is key!

What is a "Hero"?
Someone you look up to,...someone you admire for doing good, above and beyond the norm.
Now friend, don't get upset, we all proud of the job you and thousands of others do but you gotta understand, it don't give no wright to come on and kick the dog or make little smurky quotes on other boards about those that look up to you as a "hero",... that makes them think your just playing them for dumb pups.
If you remember, I argued for Bev. to let you back on the board because you had different opinions. We all care 'bout you, but don't mean your mama's favourite...
God's speed my friend and hurry home so you and them kids can get to running hounds again...

Re: Half Brother/Sister Cross??
It doesn't make his opinion any less valuable either. I never saw him tout his position to try to gain favor with anyone else...........I generally just see others bring it up but not him. I did however just see you make sure to mention the favor you did for him whether he asked for it or not. While appreciated I don't see where that gives you any more favor than him.
This debate will go on for years and years to come. Trying to get one side to see the other is next to impossible because we all have our own opinions. Maybe Mybeagles had a bad run of luck with some linebreeding and maybe you all hit the jackpot the very first time you did it. Maybe his only real experiences are with outcrossing and yours may only be with linebreeding. Either way I doubt any of us are true experts on the subject although we'd all like to think we are. I like what was said about selection is the key so linebreed, inbreed or outcross to your hearts content but pick the right dogs to breed no matter which blueprint you decide to use.

This winter has been crap! Temps around 0 F for the last 2 weeks. 2 to 3 feet of dry fluffy snow. Enough to drive a guy to the Beagle boards.
Those Wind turbines are popping up everywhere. I say burn more coal! Not much evidence of Global warming where I live.

That went over my head

Re: Half Brother/Sister Cross??
I'm going to apologize and admit I bring most of the hostilities on myself........so Moorebeagles, Farwest, SR Patch I'm sorry about my "tone".
I've never met anyone "in person" that I didn't get along great with, and I'm sure if I met any of you we would have a great time running dogs and having some laughs.
My problem is, I have a dry sense of humor and am too sarcastic and snyde which doesn't usually come across the right way when articulatated on a beagle chat board. Guys that know me, know I'm just making light of topics that are generally taken way to serious like "inbreeding".
For me this chat board provides some info, but mainly entertainment, but making "sport" with guys that take things more serious doesn't work.
I'll adjust my approach, and tone down the sarcasm to ensure others dont draw the wrong conclutions.
I dont have a problem admitting I'm wrong, and this time I escalated things and clearly irritated some people.
Im afraid this kills much of the entertainment value so what we are left with is:
1. Is Black Gold better than Sprotsmix?
2. Who makes the best pair of hunting boots?
3. Does anyone know how to get ahold of Bob XXXX?
4. Congradulation to XYZ with your win at the nationals!
5. Sorry about your 12 y/o dog that died last night.
6. ...and Chappy running his dog 80+ hours a week.
Sorry guys!

Re: Half Brother/Sister Cross??
i think a lot of hounds are linebreed for the traits there owers like. but the exceptional ones come from out crossing the linebreed hounds. i my experience or my luck
Re: Half Brother/Sister Cross??
Mybeagles,
I have see nothing wrong with your comments although at times they are very pointed and stingy!!LOL
I hope to meet you one day so I can give you my real opinion in person.
I am sure we could go run some hounds and have a great time if you could take the fact I am going to tell you every time one of my less than "superior", inbred, hounds lays it on your Ranger Dan outcrosses!!! LOL
In all seriousness, I would know how, and do know how to take guys like you and I am probably one of them sometimes as well!!
Talk to you later.

Re: Half Brother/Sister Cross??
Oh, by the way, back to the topic. I ran the male solo last night in question on this breeding. He is going to make it very hard on me to outcross. Hard running, accurate on the line, very good looks, and mouth like a big ole walker hound treeing. I reallly like him so we will see. Thanks again for all the opinions!!
