The benfit was given by assuming that the buddy was taking good care of his dogs to start with.

Now, what is known for sure ... "All his dogs have died within 2 years of age". Pure kennel Neglect has been found. We have now surpassed the "benifit stage "and now faced with the facts. Nothing wrong with speaking with the buddy about it. In law enforcement ...taking Care of the Clear and Present Danger comes first.

TLEE.... First let me say no offense at all taken here. This just makes for good conversation .Go back and read the post. I think you mis-read the original post or maybe I did. What he said was all his friends dogs died within the last two years of old age. Matter of fact the female he talks about he refers to as an old girl meaning (old dog). Which shows his friend had taken care enough of them so that they at least lived to be older dogs. Also I know the law, I spent 20 years in law inforcment, 10 years on patrol and 10 years as a Detective investigator and retired at that rank. Thats why I made my previous post. I worked in the worst crime areas in a major city in the north east. I learned to treat people as I met them as an honest law-abiding person even though alot of the people living in my patrol area where the worst of the worst. If that changed after I met them it was because of the individuals doing. I didn't automaticly treat every civilain I met as a low-life. Partly due to the fact that there were also good people living in that same area so I tried to error on the safe side, with caution but on the safe side to give everyone I met the benifit, Untell they showed me otherwise. Same here he needs to speak to his friend an give him the benifit to explain.....Thats my opinon. Stay safe and be careful.........DH

No offence taken deerhost. You made the statement ... "Until they showed me otherwise". In this case the buddy has shown that he doesn't mind leaving the dog to lay in it's own filth. I have No problem with speaking to the buddy about the conditions the dog was found in. With your law enforcement background , I'm sure you are well aware of people falling back into Old Habits. I'm just not so sure a good talk will help this buddy see his wrong doing. I would bet that the buddy doesn't feel any harm has been done at all. For the dogs sake, I just hope that all ends well.

Fellas here's the deal. First of all I never said to call the law right out of the gate so don't put words in my mouth. I said I would take the dog and have a good stiff conversation with the man when he gets home. He wants to change then he can have his dog back. If he doesn't then he can call the law on me I guess. I'll do a lot for any one of my friends but if I ever caught one doing this I'd do exactly the same thing. I would only consider cleaning up "his" kennel for him after we'd had a talk once he got home. And only if he can give me some kind of a decent explanation for what is going on. It was said once but I'll say it again, turning a blind eye is not the way to go. I'm a very reasonable kinda guy and will help anyone that is willing to help themselves. And I don't care what age you are, the "ole" ways are not an excuse for neglect.

S.R., there is a big difference between your calves and his dog and being the kind of guy you claim to be I would expect you to to understand that. And please don't preach to me about respecting a man and his property. Being younger than you does not make me an idiot...............and it doesn't mean I know everything there is to know either. I don't always agree with some things that are again done the "ole" ways but neglect is not an ole way of doing things.......it's the lazy way of doing things and there's nothing ole or new about it. And being too prideful to ask for help if he needs it isn't a good excuse in my book either.

I would like you guys to give me just 1 GOOD reason for allowing a dog to live in that kind of filth. If it is because for some reason the man can't afford to properly take care of his dog then you would certainly think he would have felt the need to explain that before this guy walked in to feed the dog for the first time and saw it. Or maybe clean up some poop before he left........it's not like it costs a ton of money to go scoop poop. And if he's physically incapable of doing it then maybe take the time to explain that too.........beforehand.

And another question.........What are you gonna do if after you talk to the guy he says well I'm not gonna change and it's my dog and my property so mind your own business? Do I "respect" the man and his "ole" ways and just let it go???

Give me some answers fellas, I mean come on. Do any of you guys let your dogs live like that?? If no then why not? And if yes then why do you own any dogs? And just because a guy has dogs that live to be 10 and some of them could run the snot out of a rabbit that doesn't even mean that he used to take good care of his dogs either. Maybe he did, maybe he didn't, maybe he just figured if they make it then they're worth keeping?? Who knows???

Also fellas, sorry if I'm getting all worked up but neglect, or at least the appearance of neglect burns my :moon: !! Again, IMO there is just absolutely no excuse for it. I've seen too many people that neglect their animals and it's not usually a new thing for them.....maybe once in a while but not very often.

S.R., sorry if I got a little heated. ;)

I'm a fanatic with my dogs, They are always well fed and clean. There is no reason for having a dog live in filt. I ment find out why he left the dog this way and tell him you would gladly take the dog from him and take good care of her if he can't. I ment to talk to your friend tell him you want the dog if beagling is taking a back seat in his life. Thats it, give him that benifit to ask him and tell him the dog deserves better. If he is a GOOD person and understands he will give you the dog. If not then you can go about it in a more aggressive way. I just don't like the fact of taking the dog while the guy is away with out first giving the guy a talk and asking for the dog.......Again thats just me...Gotta get off this thing and get some some stuff done. Happy running everyone!! Derrhost
