Get some MTG form the local feed store after the bleeding stopped and it will go the hair back.

If you think that tail looks bad, come to a Kentucky lp or Midwest field trial. I seen a dog Saturday i felt sorry for. No hair from half way to tip on top.Now thats hunt.

I thought when you were picking out an adult dog to buy you walked down the kennel and found the one with the most beat up tail and thats the one you bought cause you knew it hunted.

Dock it or not, that is up to you. I would not tape a bandage on it. For the bandage to stay on while hunting, it will have to be tight. Tight enough to probabily cut off circulation for 5 or 6 hours and then get home and take it off. This will not help your situation. JMO

I thought that's the way a hunting dogs tail is supposed to look because my dogs tail looks like that most of the year.

When you see blood streaming out, and the dog gets lethargic, a docked tail looks better than leaving her in the kennel.wingmaster_01 wrote:Looks like a huntn dogs tail to me, don't band it's fine. My hounds probably twice that bad. Never cared for a hound with a docked tail, kinda looks my jack russell. Just spray a little blue coat on it, and giddy up.

that isnt bad, i got dogs with 4 inches of raw tail or more and they run the same. but i guess some dogs it can bother more than others.

I was given a grade dog last year that his tail was so beat up that it would bleed so much that he couldn't be hunted. I docked some off and he doing fine this year. I didn't take quite enough off and the tip still gets bloodied just doesn't throw blood all over the other dogs like before.wingmaster_01 wrote:From a skinned up tail??? Like they say on ESPN. Mo. Beagler 5000 if the tail is affecting the hunt, I would go ahead and dock it.

I've got a little Kalagha bitch that is a briar buster. Last year I noticed that she seemed to be getting lazy. Then she came over and sat down. I looked and there was a steady stream of blood from the end of her tail. I put her up, banded her tail, and in a few days she was back to her normal hunting.

i put bag balm on the raw part then tear a piece of duct tape in half the long way and wrap it. it can be left on for 2 or 3 days if dry. been doing this for years.

that does'nt look that bad from the picture, but if you think it's affecting dog then i'd have it docked. To answer you're question no a docked tail does not count against hte dog on the bench. It is considered a hunting injury and hunting injuries are non faultable. that is for u.k.c can't answer for any other registry.

Here's one way to tape the dogs tail if you want to do it to protect her tail instead of docking it.

i was running with a old man and his dogs tail was bleeding bad he grabed a bottel of super glue and poured it all over the end of his dogs tail. he said that if you put the glue on first it really helps i saw him use a whole bottel on one dog
