Starting A New Pup

Looking for a good starting Pen near Casey, Illinois. Also anyone near there that has a good Adult for sale to help train the pup?

There are two pens within about 2 hours or so of you. The closest one to you is owned and operated by Roger Smith of Arnezville IL. which is just North of Jacksonville, IL. I think he charges $2.75 per day. His number is 217-997-2319.
There is another pen about 30 miles NorthWest of the pen above that is owned and operated by Dick Powell. His number is 217-322-4672. I have used both of these pens and would recommend either one.

my friend has taken 3 dogs to Roger Smiths pen and 2 out of the 3 came back running good and the 3rd never did make a dog

If i was you i would take your dog to Dick Powell he got my dog started for me and i never thought this dog was going to start.

the one reason i never took a dog to a starting pen is because then you miss out on the special moment when your pup opens on his/her first rabbit then all that hard work you put into it was well worth it.

not that i think starting pens are bad i think they are great i just like the feeling of starting that pup myself

Me too illinoisboy,but then I have my own starting pen now :dance: .Really,my pups usually only get time in it til they are opening and trailing.Which idealy doesn't take very long.I should also mention I have cottontails in my pen.Then it is into the wild with my old,slower,puppy training machine (Thumper). She is 8 yrs. old and has helped me get quite a few pups started real good.I will definitly be lookin' for another one just like her when the day comes she is gone.The pups seem to learn how to work the check so much faster when they have an experienced teacher for a while IMO.
