You can use a heat lamp or heating pad in the box.

i had a litter welp on jan 12 2003 it was 12-20degrees for almost all of that week.i used a heat lamp with red bulb.i put the welping box on the end side of a builing and the pen on the out side off the ground.i also use a electric heater at nights when it is real cold.

last litter i had i put a work lite UNDER dog house. warms the floor. worked great . did not lose a pup . i wish this was my idea but i saw it somewhere on a message board. pete

I know this sis an old thread but wanted to share this. I am botlle raising a pup right now because the dam died & my friend did not want the hassle of
raising all 6. He is in a milk crate right now with an electric heater blowing on it. Whenever I feed him I take the 20 oz. coke bottle out & refill it with piping hot water. When I set him back in He snuggles up to the bottle :)

i'm with Ryan on this on, bring them in, of course we only have brought one litter in..but only one survived because the other ones didnt suck, but the one that did is 5 months and my sister wont put him outside now

I just had litter hit the ground 2 weeks ago and Im not having any prob keeping them warm its keeping mama cool right now.. I have them in a whelping box with a hole cut on the side and a small fan blowing in.. Temps here ranging 80-90s daytime down to 70s at night. Just unplug your fan at night mama will do the rest fer em at night..

Jason,
I might suggest you turn your fan around and pull air from the house. This will do better to get the heat from the house and not put a draft on the pups. Best of luck with the puppies ;) ...Patch

I was thinking the same thing, I had a fan on mine to keep em cool.

i have a female that comes in only 1 time a year,,,in dec, im gonna breed her and about a week before her whelp date ill bring her in the house i have a pet taxi for a st bernard and we keep the pups in till at least it breaks the cold,,,,,,this also help socialize the pups with humans,,,,
you can take a kid out of the country, but you cant take the country out of a kid
