10 year old girls beagle shot while hunting UPDATE!!
A guy called me about a year ago enquiring about breeding his female in the future. I did'nt know the guy but he seemed like a nice guy. Wanted to breed his female (in the future) that went back to turbo and some other Branko blood. Well I hadn't heard from him in a year or so when I got a call from him last night.
He and his daughter (10 yrs. old) were on their way back from Ohio Power in McConnelsville, Ohio. When I answered the phone I wasn't sure who it was and could hear a young child crying pretty hysterically in the background. He asked me if I had bred anything within the past several months and if I happened to have any pups.
He then went on to explain that he and his wife had bought a beagle pup for their 9 yr. old daughter for Christmas "09"
His daughter had participated in the raising and training of the pup for the past year. Him and his daughter took the young dog and the female that he was anticipating breeding some time this year to Ohio Power to rabbit hunt yesterday.
Not long after they turned the two dogs loose the young female of his daughters started up a hollar and struck and began working the track up the hollar with his older female following along but not saying anything. After the dogs has gone about two or three hundred yards up the hollar he said that it occured to him that the young dog must be running something wrong of the older female would have harked in with her by then. About the time that he was convinced that the young dog was hitting a deer the dogs were about three hundred yards or so away and about at the head of the hollar by then. Within a few seconds he and his daughter heared three shots and dogs screeming in the head of the hollar. By the time they got to where they heard the dogs and shots he saw a green ford pick-up driving away up the road too far to see the lic. plate. He began tracking the dogs in the snow and saw that both of them had crossed the road and soon after the tracks crossed the road he saw blood in the snow and sure enough just a little further found his daughters pup dead and the older female had made it through a creek and was laying on the other side dead.
Well of course his daughter immediately went in hysterics. He went back to his truck and drove around and loaded the two dogs up and like I said, called me on the way home, hoping to find a pup or something to get his daughter. Well I told him that I did'nt have a thing right now but I would call everyone I know and put the word out to find his girl a pup or young dog and to call me when he got home. Well a little while later he called and in the background I could hear his wife and daughter crying. I asked to speak to his daughter and told her that I would not only look but contact everyone I know and have them look and put the word out for her a dog.
He and his daughter came to my house a little while later (he was trying to get her mind off what had taken place, I think) and I continued to make a few phone calls while they were here. I questioned his daughter to find out what she wanted and she said that she would like to have a femle pup 6 weeks to 6 or 7 months old with a similar running style, and size is not so important but the two that were killed were 15" dogs.
I wish I had a litter right now but I don't. I explained to both of them that this is a difficult time of year to get ahold of a pup. And usually, as a rule, if anyone was getting rid of a young dog that it was for a reason. I also told her that if someone could'nt find her a dog that she could have a pup out of my next litter but that might be several months off.
The reason I am posting this is to put the word out to everyone to consider this girl if you hear of anyone with a pup or young dog that someone might be getting rid of and if necessary I would be more than happy to offer a trade of a pup from a future cross out of my yard.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

So everyone knows,
The only reason I didn't post Mark Canter's phone # is because he has been struggling for work this year (he is a logger) and they only have a cell phone and can't afford to pay much of a phone bill. If any of you want his phone I would be happy to give it to you, just call me

Re: 10 year old girls beagle shot while hunting
It takes a certified piece of
to shoot a dog for no good reason.Hope this experience doesn't bother the little girl and she gets a dog that'll run the fur off a rabbit to make her forget all about this in time.

God made dogs....Then he made BEAGLES!
