This is what was asked . Im just sayin not what any of us can look back in a pedigree and figure out an opinion on.
All those old dogs are dead now. You can quadruple zillion crosses on any of them those old dogs will still be dead. If more people would worry about what dogs are producing now, I think that would be more useful than trying to bring Mt Zion Pete back to life.

That's the kind of dog I like. A dog that has a good ratio, so he averaged like one field champion per litter that is a good reproducing dog I think. There are some owners breeding their FC's and IFC'S to every bitch that shows up with a stud fee and they now have hundreds of pups on the ground and very few are showing anything not saying the dog is no count but the owner needs to be more select on what he breeds!!!

How many times has this dog been bred compared to what he has reproduced?brush_hog wrote:UKC dog, White River Tuff Enough recently added his 100th FC pup. That is impressive! Dale Prunty is da man.
One thing I have noticed with UKC reproducers many of them have been bred
to a lot of females, compare that to what they have produced and the number
goes way down. When you look at Dogs like Moneysunk Mountainman, and Greenbay
Shooter that have not been bred a lot compared to what they have reproduced; those
are what I would consider true reproducers. You could breed any male dog to several
females and get a few good ones just from the quantity of females being bred, something
good has to pop up if only on the females merit. Too many dogs become reproducers from
high numbers of females being bred and propaganda. JMO and observation nothing more.

Without a doubt Murphy's Buddy then Horseshoe Driver then Mountaineer Sonny.Never seen Driver or Sonny go but I've seen dogs out of them and they were something to behold.Murphy's Buddy could run a Rabbit fast like he was tied to it he cleaned tracks in tuff conditions.

Re: Best Reproducing dog you've seen??
I am going to have to agree with Danny on this one. Jack of All Trades was only bred 40 some times. He has produced more FC with the limited number of breedings/pups than any other hound that I know of. Then when you put his grand or great grand pups into that mix and see the amount of champions in AKC, NKC, PKC, and even UKC he is the number 1 reproducer. But you also have to consider what hounds that have been bred just for gun hunters and knowbody will ever know their names. When looking at a breeding you need to contact as many people as you can trialers, hunters, runners, and even show people just to see what is out there and what that hound has produced.
Example would be Northway Spur, you need to contact Dexter and ask about the trials and then contacts for hunters or just pleasure runners. We all need to do our homework to better this great breed and to each their own on running styles and blood lines.

I've seen different pictures of Jack Of All trades ... Some he looks like a midget dog others he actually
appears 15 inches . Could someone post and confirm the correct picture of him ?

Re: Best Reproducing dog you've seen??
why is 100 ukc fc's in a pedigree mean its not a good producer? FOr that style it may be the best one who ever lived... who knows?
Maybe its harder in akc to get FC but I would be pretty happy if any of my dogs could produce that in any style

Re: Best Reproducing dog you've seen??
i guess it just depends on what the individual likes, but i think if were trying to compare "reproducers",then my opinion on that is - there is a huge difference between akc/ckc champions versus ukc/arha/pkc champions.i personaly dont have a problem with ukc/arha/pkc,but when were talking about hounds that are "reproducing champions" in those formats,in my opinion - there is a huge difference in the comparison.Mo. Re: Best Reproducing dog you've seen??
Tinywoods,As I read these posts I notice one measuring stick everyone uses, the number of field champions. I have seen some grade dogs rip FC all to pieces. I agree the dogs mentioned above have produced great hounds and should be listed above, but is that the way we should measure producers? Alot of dogs are never trialed and are great.
If you dont get a dog to trials and get your stud dog some breedings and exposure, how would you expect such a hound to be considered a recognizable producer? Many stud owners are completely kennel blind and will only tell you the great things about their dog. Are we to dismiss all that and recognize some dog that never competed, his offspring never competed, and classify them as a great producer.
You may or may not like what trials do for the sport, but I dont think anyone can truthfully deny that if you want to be listed among the "greats" your stud and the offspring are going to have to compete at some level.
What if I told you my great uncle was a better baseball player than Babe Ruth, he just chose not to play professional baseball.......

Another point worth considering.......if you compete with your dog and it turns out to be a FC, everyone is going to nit pick that dog to death to expose every fault. The dogs that become highly recognizable champions and producers have had to pass the test of the nay sayers!

Well above average that I have enjoyed with first hand experience:
Pine Mt. Chester
Bruner's Big Ben
Abshire's June- TBD to but the pups I have seen and fooled with have been nice.
Reffett's Ky Mtn Sampson- He consistently threw a hard hunting rabbit dog.
Kingswood Trex- I saw some really good dogs out of him and most were at least above average rabbit dogs.
buddy's Iron Eagle-Threw some really good dogs. Ole Eagle was not a pretty dog but he threw some nice hounds.
I live in an small world so just a few I have liked.
