I had kicked this Idea around a little last year BUT after another very disapointing Rabbit season here in Md I have deciced to plan a trip to Kansas for 2011. I buy Md ,Wv and Va lic each year and last year the going rate for a rabbit was rite at $50.00---so far this year has been DOUBLE that.: I run a SPO style dog and the kill ratio is 70-80% of rabbits jumped.
I do not do this for the $$$ and sense BUT with several thousand $$$ in dogs and equipment I would believe this would be a better way. I work with a guy who has traveled there the last three years hunting "Bambi" and he tells me that there are plenty of rabbits that he saw quite a few while walking to his stands.
He hunts in the Fall River area. Can anyone help me as to any of the particulars of who to contac for info. The Dept of Widelife usually provides vague info.
Jim, I made my first trip to Kansas this year, I too was chasing deer. But, just like your freind, I also saw a good number of cottontails and the locals said that the jackrabbits were coming back in some areas but we did not get to see any. Im not sure exactly where Fall River is but we hunted the north west side of the state in Grahm county. If your interested I could suggest some great lodging in that area with a family that owns over 4000 acres. They have year round cabin rentals as well. PM if this is somthing you would like to look into.

I live in Wichita and would go to Fall River or another public area every week. They hand out nice maps at the visitor centors. I would look on the KDWP website for a phone number. There is also a book on public land in KS that you can download as a PDF. It is decent but not as good as what you get from the visitor's center. As long as you can get to Fall River, you will be fine without the map if you can't get one till you arrive. The land is well marked. I am in Iraq now, so I can't be of too much more help.

I live in Junction city KS But I could tell you that where ever you will go you will find rabbits
I have heard a lot about the number of rabbits in Kansas and have always wanted to go. I plan to retire from work this comimg summer so maybe I can plan a trip next season to Kansas and also Iowa.
