Catching a rabbit

Anybody out there have any tips to box trap a rabbit??? So far all I've caught is squirrels, 3 times in the past week and a half to be exact. Not sure if it is the same squirrel or not, but I let one go out of the trap yesterday, and just now the Mrs. calls me and tells me I got another one.

I've been using apples as bait, but is there anything out there rabbit specific? Or any tips? I've been using the snow to find their runways and placing the box trap on the used rabbit trails, but seems like the squirrels just get there first.

I have a 6 month old that I'm trying get him nose deep in a live cottontail.

I've had luck using lettuce to catch them. Tractor supply sells a rabbit bait you might want to try.

I have never had luck with a "wire" live trap (if this is what your using) I use apple for bait, I have a homemade wood box trap (with wire on the end so it looks hollow) that I made and catch rabbits regularly in it (for pups also), I set the trap next to a rabbit trail/run (not on it) , Here is a pic of the 1 I built, goggle rabbit box trap and watch the video on how to build 1

I have had good success using canned peaches.strawberries work good also.alot of times I will keep the doors open on the trap for a few days,so they get comfortable going in and out of the trap.I also like to place some brush around the trap,so it looks natural.seems like once you catch one it gets easier.probably the scent in the trap or droppings. good luck.

Find one feeding in the field edge at night,place the box where u see him at with the back towards the woods.Use no bait at all.Get some of the rabbit trail scent and spray in it or rub a fresh rabbit in the box.They will box out of curiosity.Bait attracts critters.If u dont get him in 3 nights move to another one.Once u catch that first one that trap will have the magic touch!!!!!!!!!!

Nosy squirrels are bad this time of year as their digging up nuts.
Move your traps away from the woods, out into the fields that show rabbit activity around the faithful brier patch...
