parvo advise needed

My wife just recently had a english bulldog puppy that she got and after we got it home we found out that it had parvo and it died just a few days later, what I am wondering is what can I do to kill the parvo in my yard where that it went out to use the bathroom. I am getting ready to have a litter of beagle pups and I dont want them to catch it. I have had many litters and different dogs here at my house and I have never had a parvo problem. also my whelpin pin is about 100 yards from where the dog with parvo walked around and used the bathroom. Is there any chance that the parvo could travel that far? any advice would be appreciated.thanks

I have heard that parvo can be spread very easily from dog to dog and therefore area to area. Ive had puppies die in regular lots and on concrete. The only way i have found to fight parvo is to keep pups in above ground kennel until six months old. Had a 20 week old pup die from parvo before with all her shots so its better to wait atleast six months till they hit the ground. I dont know of anything that will kill parvo except bleach. My best advice would be your boots. Clean them good with bleach just before you enter your kennel or area where your other dogs are kept. Have heard of more than one case where a fellow dog owner came to visit and seemed to bring the virus with him. You walk on the ground, the virus is left on the ground in the feces and urine. Makes sense to me

Bleach everything possible. I've heard that it's impossible to actually get rid of parvo once it's on your property. I'd move my dogs and keep them away from where the bulldog may have used the bathroom.

I've never seen winter parvo...

June or May earliest.

parvo is still alive in the winter because my mom brought a toy poodle here for us to hide from my little sister for 1 night so that she could give it to her for christmas and when my wife picked it up from the breeders house it was throwing up and acting sick, my wife thought that it was from the car ride home but when she took it to the vet the next day to get its shots they tested it positive for parvo, it died that night. I guess parvo is just attracted to me for some reason.

I guess it could be harbored in a warm indoor environment where puppies are whelped. Winter usually culls out the weak and sick, so it's not carried and readily virus spread to any young born out of doors, I guess. When the Spring thaw arrives and the new born of summer are susceptible, that's when we notice it most.

Alot people dont know that older dogs can carry parvo and not be sick but spread in kennels and other dogs that is why i hate bring other dogs into my kennel

Not sure how to fight back with parvo. I have had 7 pups on parvo. The first 4 pups were only on tamaflu and all 5 died. 2 pups were on tamaflu and chlorine and one survived. A pup I got from New York just arrived and picked up on the parvo and died a couple days after (he was just on tamaflu). I'm thinking about keeping them in a puppy welping box until 6 months before they hit the ground.

Nope, I never have give a shot past a year old.

If your whelping pen is 100 yds from the area used by the bulldog, you might consider putting up a little temporary "play yard" fence around the whelping pen. They don't need a lot of room on the ground when they're tiny -- just enough for some kennel relief. I would suggest framing it in around the bottom and filling with pea gravel 4" deep. You can then spray their play area down with bleach water and it will drain through the rock. You could also keep them above ground until after their second shot has taken (first one at 5-1/2 weeks, then the second one at 8 weeks, then wait ten days for it to take). I always breathe a little easier after the 3rd shot has taken, which I give at 12 weeks.

Honestly, if it were me, I would fence in the little play yard with the whelper inside, pea gravel it, and then just be very careful about my feet before stepping inside it. Put a shallow rectangular tub of bleach water just outside the pen that you can step into with your kennel boots before entering. Once the pups have had they're 3rd and 4th series of shots they should have enough protection to be able to use the whole yard. That would put them at abut 20 weeks.

I would also keep a pair of boots next to the kennel that i hadnt walked on the affected area with Parvo is bad stuff i give my old dogs a shot once a year cause they can catch it and then pass it on and never show a sign of being sick
