Where would you move to be a beagler?

Post by KesslerBeagles »

If you could move anywhere, where would you move if you were going to surround your move around "beagling". Keeping in mind the weather, rabbit/hare population, the field trial circuit, places to hunt... etc... What state, country, city... where would be your perfect place for a "beagler" if you rabbit hunt and field trial. {or top 3 places}

Kessler, you and I must think alike. If I ever did move it would have to be a place where I could chase some rabbits with my hounds. But I must say i'm pretty lucky where I live now. Some darn good Hare runnin around here, and many Beagle clubs within 1 hour drive. I use to live in NW Ohio and thought runnin Cottontain was the best, until I moved to northern WI 25 years ago with my trusty beagle. Then I started runnin Snowshoes, I thought I died and went to Heaven. Chasing the same rabbit for 5 hours was unheard of, in Ohio maybe 45min if your lucky, but the average run on Hare is about 1 hour if you don't shoot it first.

i would stay right here in michigan. just would move to the north. i think us michiganders have a big advantage on training beagles. we have the harsh cold dry winters and the hot summers. the swamps and briears of the south. we also have cotton tail and hare witch is two different types of races.i think that with are 4 seasons and are treacherous terrain hare and cotton tail there is no secreat why so many top hounds come out of michigan :nod:

Here in western ny we have both rabbit and hare. The weather ranges from -20 with wind and snow to 95 sticky or dry. We have alot of game and our hunting season opens Oct 1st ends Feb28th (except for March hare in the northern zone). I would say it is the perfect location for a beagler.

Upstate New York. That would put me within an hour or two of rabbit, hare, and fox.
