Rossi sets for daughter?
My 8 year old daughter is asking for a .22 rifle for Christmas but I have been eyeing the Rossi interchangeable sets for when she is ready to rabbit hunt with a gun (next season, probably). Meranda and I must be raising her right! She's all girl, though, and it is going to look really funny when her shotgun and her American Girl doll compete for her attention! Does anyone have any experience with the Rossis? I'm looking at the .410/.22. She's not big and doesn't like the kick of the 28 single that Luke handed down to her so I need something in between.

Re: Rossi sets for daughter?
The .410 Rossi is so light that it kicks like a mule. If she doesnt like the 28 then she probably wont like the kick of the Rossi. My son is 8 years old and weighs 80 lbs. but still doesnt like the kick of this little gun.

my daughter got hers when she was 8 its a 20 gauge. i had to cut the stock off two inches and then i heated some lead and poured into the hole in the back to give it more weight she loves it now but i end up carrying it after about twenty minutes

Re: Rossi sets for daughter?
I bought my son a .410/.22 combo Rossi this year. GREAT GUN. He is 8. He shot his first deer with it this year. The .410 does not kick to bad for him at all. 50 yds or less it shoots slugs GREAT. The .22 is a tack driver. I recommend it for youth.

I just got my 5 year old daughter the pink Rossi . I know she's to little now but that's ok. I'll just put it in the gun cabinet. She really wanted it so for 100 bucks it was worth the smile on her face.

I got the 410, .22 combo also for my 9 year old , he loves it , but it does have a little kick to it
Re: Rossi sets for daughter?
We bought my 9 year old daughter the .410/.22 combo for Christmas this year....with a pink tech camo sling.
My neighbors both bought this same Rossi combo for their boys and they love them. Claims it will drive tacks with slugs out to 50yds and the .22 is in contention for accuracy with the TC youth .22. For the price and versatility, I am not sure it can be beat.
She currently shoots my dads .410 which is similar to the judge but some other name brand....it shoots "ok" but she is ready for her "own" gun from Santa this year.

My 8 year old has one, he's not real big either. Kick doesn't bother him at all, I had a old box of 2 1/2 inch shells that I let him use but he has shot 3's also. I will say one thing that little gun is deadly with slugs out to 50 yards it really suprised me. The price is pretty good as well. Stick a sling on and they are ready to rock.

I bought one for my 5 year old grandson. He likes and shoots the 22 really well. The 410 on the other hand is another story. He don't like the kick, but he does shoot it. He's killed a couple squirrel's with it so that takes some of the kick out of it. He is kind of big for a 5 years old though, he weighs about 70 lb..

The 410 Zach has kicks like a mule, Zachs son didnt seem to mind. Im sure some kids wouldnt like it at all. I have 20 gauge youth in the Rossi, it will pile drive you. I let everybody borrow it, then watch and laugh when they shoot it !!!

Thanks for all the replies. I went ahead and ordered one with the black and inquired at the same time on an auction website about a pink one but don't know about it, haven't heard back.

Ramey...just a thought.
When we got my daughters I thought seriously about getting her the pink one (they had black and pink).....the only problem I had with it was that I don't want her thinking it is some sort of toy. I could be wrong but that was just my line of thinking when we made the purchase....when the gun comes out, it is serious business and you can seriously hurt people with it by not using safety.

Ohiohnter, that is an excellent point. I have never considered that. I am a volunteer hunter ed. instructor and both my kids have a healthy respect for firearms but I really appreciate you pointing that out because I will stress that from now on. I ordered the black composite stock/blued barrel for her so it won't be a problem anyway, but that is something to remember and emphasize to the kids who get them, especially this time of year. thanks.

I think you will be happy with the purchase. My daughter has one in 20guage, .22lr, .243win on youth stocks. It is a great gun. I don't think the recoil is bad. The gun is accurate. Many rabbits and squirrel have found the freezer by way of her and this gun. On saturday she shot her first deer using the .243 barrel.
