are bawl mouth dogs normaly faster

I have seen some bawl mouth dogs stop to throw their heads back and bawl, allowing a fast chop mouth dog to past them. So I guess it would have to depend on how the dog bawls on track.

I don't think so. I had a blue tick that bawled and she was about a 6.5/7 in speed. I now have a B&T that bawls and she runs a slow 5.

I don't know about speed but I think they have more stamina than the chop mouth dogs

Our fastest 4 are bawl mouth, but I have seen some fast chop mouth hounds. I don't know that there would be any correlation in what I have seen or had. Sorry, no help from me.

That is a trick question. A hare bred beagle with a bawl mouth would probly be faster than my fast chop mouth Mae. Her sister who has a bawl mouth has to give less mouth to keep up on track at the same speed same with their uncle. It's the way they breathe while giving mouth in my opionion. The dogs compared would have to be the same speed tracking for this question to have one correct answer in which case I believe the fast chop mouth would have the advantage from what I have seen.

All else being equal, a dog with a fast chop or even better, a squeel mouth will run a rabbit faster than a bawl mouth dog. All else being equal, the longer the bawl, the slower the dog.

I don't have a single bawl mouthed dog.

Alabama: You got it right. Never seen a real bawl mouth dog that didn't have to raise its head to let it out. When he does that, them chop mouths are gone.

Please don't tell my dogs your theory on this LOL. Like I said our bawl mouth hounds can be too fast at times and don't have to slow down to let it out. We have a few squeaky ones and chop ones, but most of the time the fast one with bawls mouths can hold the front a good bit. I could see where all things exactly equal a bawl may take longer to get out, but what if the dog is moving while bawling. How is it any slower than a fast chop mouth??

I agree that most dogs that give big long bawls are a little slower everything else being equel.But i sure do like listening to them on a good track.

I'm not knocking anyones dogs. I'll admit yours are probably much better than mine. Probably everyones on here is. Bowl mouth dogs raise their heads when bawling most of the time. I have seen some that didn't, but a dog bawling cannot be taking in scent at the same time its bawling.
So, even if it doesn't raise its head, the amount of ground covered while bawling and not intaking in rabbit scent can cause a lose if the rabbit turned any which a way during that time. Some stop and bawl and stay right on track, others run fast while bawling and make more loses. Fast mouthed dogs get scent between each opening and so stay in better contact with the continuous scent.
A silent running dog runs a much better continuous track than any dog that opens, whatever the mouth.
Just my opinion.

No offense taken at all I see your point now and that is why I said ours are too fast at times. They will overrun and end and sometimes it can be down right ugly!! I am quite sure our hounds are no better than yours or anyone elses for that matter. We do have a couple in particular that are fast and have bawls mouths and yes they are the ones that overrun the most so that makes sense. Would it be a reach to say that a chop mouth dog can turn on a rabbit quicker if all things equal?? I really do see the point about taking in scent and barking at the same time. I don't want to come across as a know it all in any way, as I am quite the opposite of that!!LOL.

see ihave seen all kinds of hounds just like you say shotgun,and this is why i wanted to get some info on the subject. i have a dog that opens with a ball then roles it over to a chop he is very fast. i was wondering if that is why he roles it over to save breath
