Re: Rabbit hunting vs. Deer Hunting
The farm is owned by the bank and my hunting partner knows the manager taking care of the farm. The owner filed bankruptcy and the bank took possesion of the land. we are the only ones allowed on the property. The land next to us is leased by the deer hunter. we talked to the guy that is over it and they are not going to try to sell the land until the land market improves so until then we have permission to hunt it until it is back on the market. So him complaining to the owner is not going to do anything. He already knows of the notes, and he said go hunting. I just worry for my dogs. I think we are going to contact him and try to work something out. Maybe let him know ahead of time when we plan to return to hunt it again. And if gets upset well he can listen to the races from his treestand. We have other places to hunt as well, but this is our honey hole if you know what I mean.

Wouldnt give it a second thought. You have the right to be where you're at end of story. Go leave him a note and ask him if he would mind deer hunting somewhere else because your hunting the property beside him and see what he says. Deer hunters (I am an avid deer hunter so not all) believe they're the only ones with any rights when they're hunting. I'd hunt that farm harder than ever but probably would have avoided it when I could visibly see they were hunting if they would have approached me man to man and asked in a polite manner if there was any way I could not run while they were sitting. The fact that they left you a cowardice NOTE telling you that you needed to wait is not sportsmanlike and I wouldnt pay any attention to it.
Take your kids huntin and you wont have to hunt for your kids.

Hippy said, "Deer Hunters, The guys who SIT ON THEIR ASS in a tree 30 feet in the air with their heaters". Ouch! I have often wondered why they call that hunting? It is more like "watching" and killing or something.
Re: Rabbit hunting vs. Deer Hunting
I hunt both.
If it was my 150 acres, I'd go let that bonehead know that I am well within my rights to be on my property legaly using beagles to hunt rabbit. I'd try to muster up as civil as a tone as I could pretend to have... If that didn't straighten anything out, and he and his chose to use devious tactics, I'd say "let the games begin!"
Here in the Great State of PA, they have seen to it, in their infinate wisdom, to close the small game season during the centerfire deer season. Our centerfire deer season is only two weeks long, so it's more of a break for the dogs...

Re: Rabbit hunting vs. Deer Hunting
here in N.c the opener for rifle season fell the monday after the saturday opener for rabbit season, which I did both,I have a three hundred acre farm with a road right down the middle,I run my dogs on one side and deer hunt on the other cause I know those dogs are pushing deer as much as rabbits when they run through with those mouths going and bells ringing,But if this person give's you much grief expect problems and if push comes to shove contact your local wildlife officer,I'm sure there are laws in place about harrassment of hunters even if it comes from another.
The property owners that join mine often ask if I'm running tomorrow so they can be set up on escape routes on my land.good luck!!

Re: Rabbit hunting vs. Deer Hunting
Being that I am both a rabbit hunter and a deer hunter I say still rabbit hunt on that land as you please. I do most of my hunting on public land and my favorite deer hunting day is our opening day of small game season. I have bird hunters and rabbit hunters push me deer all day long on that day.

Re: Rabbit hunting vs. Deer Hunting
As I have witnessed first hand, running dogs does not effect the deer at my house. I run dogs behind my house and listen from the back door. Last night as a matter of fact, I walked outside to see how the chase was going and two deer were less than 50 yards of my house. They are so use to the dogs running rabbits that they do not even pay them any attention. Alot of times I use the deer to tale me when the rabbits are moving. If I see the deer in the field, chances are the rabbits will come pretty easy. Unfortunately, during deer season, deer hunters get just as hard up as a honeymoon..........well you know.
Run em hard and make no excuses!
Re: Rabbit hunting vs. Deer Hunting
I would leave him a note that said stick it where the sun don't shine. I run my dogs on state land deering deer fir arm in Michigan and when I come upon a hunter they always give me a weird look so I just smile and wave
It's just as much are right as it is theirs.

But thats not what most deer hunters will do these days, they are to fixed on their horn porn to give anybody else respect. In your defense I would try to contact the guy and try to work something out, if he is unreasonable, I would keep on hunting.
This is exactly what I would do and IMO the right way to do it. Either way I would keep on hunting and if he still continues to give you any grief then call the law because he is harassing you.
