Dog Food ??

Post by Tsa la gi »

Couple of weeks before Drummond switched from Kibbels & Bits to Sport mix because of the hi eneg factor. Now have been feeding Diamond Hi eneg, all these hounds poop cow patties all the time. While in the field same thing when they stop to do their job. Pens are a mess they track this junk in the boxes. Any sugestions? They are worm free, am feeding the last bag of this hi priced crap, going back to kibbles for now. Any in put on this . What are some of you guy`s feeding? There are Wal marts, Tractor supply and numerous feed stores in a 40 mi radius.

I feed hunter's special high protien dogs like it, they look good, and the pen is not a mess. I have tried everything around here and this seems to be the best I've found $20 and some change. Most feeds are full of corn or some other filler the dogs can't digest well that's why they poop his huge and often runny.

I use the Diamond Adult Chicken & Rice and have no problems w/ loose stools w/ my dogs. In fact, it was a great improvement over some of the other stuff I was feeding them.

How long have your dogs been eating it? Did you do a gradual switch? Is the Hi-Energy a primarily meat-based food (chicken as first ingredient?)?

When I was feeding other brands that had a high corn content my dogs' stools were often loose and more frequent. They can't digest a lot of the filler that's in the primarily corn-based feeds, and it just goes in one end and out the other... Also, if I did a pretty abrupt switch of feed, without mixing, it'd take a little while for their systems to adjust to the new feed.

The Purina Pro Plan Performance gives less stool than any dry dog food I have ever seen.

Well since i have had dogs which about 6 years now i have fed Black Gold but my local Agway stopped selling it because people were not buying it because of the price. Anyways they replaced it with Southern Sport 26/18 so i figured i would try it. I am very happy with this food as of right now. The dogs stool is very hard and they seem to have really good energy still. The Southern Sport is $10.00 cheaper at $21.00 a bag compared to Black Gold which was $31.00 and seems to compare if not pass the Black Gold standards. If you do decide to try this food make sure the dogs get plenty of exercise and only feed what the bag says or maybe 1/2 cup more because it will put the weight on them quickly without proper running. There are alot of good foods out there just finding the one that suits you can be the problem. Good Luck

Mixed Kibble with Diamond purple bag Hi eneg.Seemed ok till last week or so, measured like it said, feed 1 1/3 cup appox, run these hounds 3-4 times a week they seem to have the same energy strength as before I`m just disgusted with the mess.Going to change all bedding ,put fresh bedding in.Hate to keep changing feed but I feel I need to do something.

Watch changing up frequently. That could be part of the problem. They should be changed gradually w/ a mix to let their digestive systems adjust. It's going to take a week or two to know how it effects them. Any fast changes w/out a mix period is going to give them loose stools.
