You might be catching them and just not knowing it!!! Have any of your traps been set off but just nothing in them??? is there a board under your trap so they cant squeeze out or dig somewhat??? Also is the box heavy enough to hold them in their when they squirm??? this would be what i would think of if i was doing this but i dont know whats going on for you???

The box I build was out of treated 1x6 on the top and bottom and 1x8 on the sides with a swinging door with nails in the corners so when they knock the stick down the nails will stop the door! A old timie trap door! So there is no way they can get out once the door close! I have a training pen I want to stock up!

If you have a place that have trailing/training scents just order or get the rabbit one. It's rabbit urine.

I have very little luck this time of year, after the grass and food supplies start running short in mid winter, it is much easier. Try spraying vanilla extract all around the trap, using apple for bait.

I've had decent luck with just cage style live traps. I don't cover them or anything.I don't want them to "feel" trapped. Just put the apple chunks in. I spread a little bit of the apple all around too , so the scent can spread out. I use one whole apple at a set, with most of it in the trap, but little pieces spread around. I do agree that it is easier to catch them in winter months, especially with snow, when food sources are harder for them to find. I've even baited sites without the trap first for a while to get them used to feeding there. Good luck !!

I think using vanilla extract really helps, it seems from my experience that vanilla might be trick to successful trapping. I also used a medium sized live trap like for a coon or opossum. I covered the sides and top with some brush, and leave the back open. Rabbits in a open live trap will try till they die to escape unless they feel safe sitting there. Take a sheet or something to cover the trap when you move or transport the rabbit, Because it doesn't take long for a scared rabbit beating his brains out on the side of a trap to injure them. Just my opinion on the box traps and the pyramid traps, I would burn them, used them several times and had no luck at all. I was always told they where the only way to trap a rabbit, but I found the live trap to be alot better, Just watch for skunks! Its easier for a rabbit just to hop in, than to hop in with a stick in the way. Just my opinion hope it helps.

I've caught 5 in the wire cage have-a-heart trap. At night, I drive along the road and see where the rabbit enter the cover when they run off after being spotted eating along the road side. I take the cage trap and find the run they use entering the cover and place the trap on the run under the cover. Take a soft granny red apple, split it in half, put one half in the back of the trap and rub the other half on the wire in the front part of the trap leaving juice and apple bits on the wire and ground in front of the trap. I do this about midnight and check trap in the morning, if you got your rabbit, stand the trap on end while you transport the rabbit and he won't beat himself up as bad as if the trap is laying longways and he can run back and forth hitting the ends at force.
Good luck, most my rabbits were half-growns

i use duke and tomahawk cage/live traps with just a little to no cover on them. chopped up apples/carrots/celery and sometimes corn (good hay/alfalfa after freeze up) with some salt mixed in. i think the salt helps and if it's cold it will keeps it from freezing and gives off more scent. i also alway use vanilla. if i set a bunch and have the time i will wire the door open and fill them with bait and leave them for a week or so. then when you do set them they are used to going in and out and have ate there way to the back of the trap once already. then set them for real and you will have a high% in one shot. i also cover all my traps with a cloth when i pick them up to keep the rabbits/hare from getting beat up.

We have been using box traps and live traps,What i have seen in our area that catches more rabbits than apples is sweet potatoes.Since everything is starting to die off at our club grounds we have caught 19 so far.If we are using live traps we take some type of blanket and cover the trap so it is dark.We have found out that the rabbit feels more safe inside a dark space rather than being out in the open.Just our opinion on what we have done to catch the bunnies.
