Ticks on Halloween????
I was talking this weekend with a friend who had been hunting cottontails on some islands in Lake Champlain (Vermont). He came home with little ticks all over him. Who ever heard of ticks on Halloween?? It sounded like deer ticks to me. Is anyone else still seeing ticks this late in the year? We have not had ticks here in SE Ohio since August.

Re: Ticks on Halloween????
Myself and my dogs still get ticks on us everytime I go running here. We've gotten frost the past two mornings with more on the way so hopefully that takes care of them. I went hunting Saturday afternoon actually and had to brush ticks off me and pick a few off, crawling around on the dogs.

We hunted last Friday near Harrisburg, Pa. When we finished, we picked over two dozen deer ticks off the dogs and ourselves. Some so tiny you could hardly see them. Man I HATE TICKS!!!!!!!!!!

Took one off a dog two days ago. I had the same thought that it was kinda late to be finding ticks.
Re: Ticks on Halloween????
Just pulled a big one off my Springer last night. I must have missed it a few days ago when I was pulling thorns out of her hide after an short afternoon hunt. We've had some decent frosts over the last few days, but the afternoons have still been warm.

Ive seen ticks on deer when there was a good amount of snow on the ground but ive never seen this many this time of year
Re: Ticks on Halloween????
I don't ever remember ticks this time of year in Michigan but I have been pulling them off my setter the last three times we have been out chasing grouse and woodcock. I was shocked the first time I found them, I just can't beleive it, in October? What are they deer ticks???

Re: Ticks on Halloween????
Went running yesterday evening, November 3rd, was still brushing ticks off of me every 25 yards or so.
I am seeing both tiny little black ticks which are very hard to see, and also a bit bigger tick with red on its back. They are both deer ticks in different stages of life. Apparently the tick with Red on its back is the female version. Check it out: http://www.oes.org/html/how_2_identify_ ... ticks.html
I swear you could set off a nuke and the only living thing to survive would be ticks and roaches. They are like mini armored tanks.

This is one motivation to go back to controlled burning, ticks can't take the heat, light a match and blow it out and touch a tick and the tick will release and die.
In this area, with the turkey, so came the ticks. We've had deer numbers increasing since the 50's, never these kind of ticks until the turkey were released 15 year ago.
We need the DNR to go back to controlled burning to rid the ticks and open the ground up to the sun so grasses and native ground cover can flourish, then watch and see what happens to your rabbit and bird populations... can you say, "EXPLOSION" !!!

Re: Ticks on Halloween????
Here I go again.
Put some Apple Cider Vinegar in your dogs drinking water and no more ticks will stick. Most will not even get on, but some will for a short time.
Eat a clove of garlic everyday, just before and all during tick season, pickled if you don't want to smell like it and you will not have a tick stick you either.
