Post by sanfordssj »

The UKC World hunt is going on right now. UKC has got there crap together when it comes to keeping results and updates online. NKC has got to step up to the plate.

UKC is top notch as far a a regisrty goes! NKC cant even come close. Each have formats I dont care for but I think this thread is more about the registries and not the formats. I dont think you will ever see NKC support thier different formats and beaglers like UKC does. UKC also does alot better job on pedigrees and keeping track of accomplishments of dogs and thier offspring. You would think for as many people that run NKC that they would spend a little more money on support and record keeping like UKC does.

Shouldn't be that hard for them as all the dogs are already entered in a computer for cast drawings.

Was a nice event to watch as a non UKC trialer, as it was close so I went and watched. Too bad they could not have put together a few vendors for collars and such. Lots of hats though.....LOL

Overall they really do seam to have it together, but then I have never been to NKC worlds

I really like how the have the results online and updated every round. That makes ot nice for us computer beaglers who couldnt make it but wanted to see the results of your favorite hounds, kennels, friends.

Listen guys use to run ukc before i was kick out because of some terrible cheating occured on my cast and i over reacted. but i will say this your format by far is the best and i have told several people in nkc as soon as you al get red of the hunting judge and judge all cast with a none hunting judge their organization meaning nkc would be in trouble. lets face it numbers do not lie at least 7out of 10 cast won is usually the hunting judge no way that that happens with a non hunting judge. and i am telling you this can be done and your organization would grow by leaps and bounds. never felt cheated in a ukc finals but know i have been cheated more times then not in first round. plus make all hunts elimination style hunts. do not blame dogs for being dry holed and you al know this happens often. if dog wins cast dog moves on its as simple as that. do this and you to will have 800 plus dogs at your world hunts.

All very good points. ARHA vs UKC Hunting Beagle have two totally different styles of judging, and both can have good and bad points. The biggest issue i have with UKC is just what you said "if dog wins cast dog moves on its as simple as that. do this and you to will have 800 plus dogs at your world hunts". I don't like seeing a cast winner not moving forward based on points, etc....if the dog wins, they should advance.

I couldn't agree more with sanfords comments. My one and only only trip to UKC US Nationals , dog won cast 450 plus points, but did not move on to next round. The score has little or nothing to do with the hounds ability, but rather the location the guide puts you in, which is very unfair . With that said, me and everyone else who entered, new or should have known the rules before entering. As far as the UKC running a hunt of that size, they do an outstanding job, ARHA cannot compare. I surely didn't do a deep dive into this, but in all fairness, i'll guess the UKC has much greater resources in which to draw from to put information out , and support a hunt of that size, both financially, and the size of the staff.

I'm no big follower of ARHA (love the beaglers) but I'll have to disagree on this point. There is no trial, past or present, to equal the ARHA Little Pack World Hunt. It is the Woodstock of Beagling, and it became so longgggg before the present regime took over. Again, that was due to the dedication of the beaglers involved. Over the years, Erie Canal Beagle Club has done a fantastic job of pulling off a trial of 700+ entries, getting everybody into rabbits, getting judges and guides for every cast (and they go out 35 casts at a time), and providing adequate food and facilities for everyone there. I can't speak for the involvement of ARHA proper, but I believe they do help with sponsors, and that trial awards the top 20 in each class -- 30 dogs get trophies, and 60 get points. Not counting the show, which is also done very systematically...scoring the dogs by actual points.

UKC and ARHA are very different registries, right down to the way they are governed, and how much control is kept in the office or put into the beaglers/committee's hands. I find it hard to make direct comparisons between the two.

A little reliable birdie told me that UKC might be considering a 3 day Hunting Beagle Nationals starting this coming April. Also taking the top 16 cast winners in each division, not just the registered division. It's not elimination style but it's a start.

There were 192 at this years UKC world. The two are so different that you can't compare them equally. You must have a handler that can call the dog entered at the UKC world so it does make it more difficult to run a lot of dogs. I have not been to the ARHA world but may go this spring to run in it. The size of it sure seems impressive. Is there a qualification criteria for the bench show?

tdog, if things haven't changed, your dog must qualify for the World Hunt in the field before it can attend to be entered on the bench. The exception to that I believe was puppies. They could bench but not be required to run the field. It used to take a 5th place or better at a Little Pack club hunt to qualify.
