well if I can keep one till it dies at the house that'll be fine with me. I'd rather have one die of old age than die getting hurt or some internal illness. They've got a place at the house till they die. I don't plan on giving them away at a old age or putting them down. I'm to attached to the little guys and it'd be hard for me to do that. I'm talking about the keepers of the pack. If they've done me good all the years they'll die happy at the house. Have a nice place for them to rest too cause they earned it and its the right thing to do IMO

Now If i get one that isn't a good hunter at a early age it'll be givin away and not be considered a keeper of the pack. Those I don't get attached to. Don't want em don't need em. End of story.

Bobby,

A lot are going in the truck at every trade day that is owned by the vet schools.
They love beagles. WE all have our limits, and I personally nor can my sons do that!

I had one I really liked from up your way called Vests Lacy, (several on here knew her) and she did some stupid stuff after small rabbits but was great down here on these big rabbits where she had too and could run heads up wide open. Got too old and was struggling to keep up so I traded her to a man with a slower pack. He said she was the best he ever owned and he was 50.

She got slower in a few years and he traded her to another man that called me and said the same that she was the best he had owned. By the time she was his and fit his pack, she was so slow that she wouldn't of known where mine were going so it was the thing to do in my opinion, not for me or the man that traded her, but for her.

By the way, she was a grand champion which meant nothing to either of the three of us. She had a good death, was killed instantly by a car while running. He said she had lost her hearing and didn't hear the car coming. I'll always remember her fondly!

John,
I had the same thing with SR Lucy Patch, she got older and slower. I think about her every day but she is bring happiness to someone else now. Some people have the nature they can't let go. My mother that way, people and animals, the burden wore on her heart.

Great replys guys,
I didn't think this would be that big of a subject. I guess the end result is do what you are comfortable with. Like it or not you have to live with the decision made and be content with that decision.

John I sure do remember Lacey. I remember one day Will Mason and I went and ran with Gabe Stockton. I'm telling you that bitch put on the show of a lifetime. I thought she might kill the dogs Will and I had on the ground that day. Will and I talk about her every once in a while. I can also remember when Gabe was trialing her she won two or three stae hunts on consecutive weekends. I can still remember the day Gabe came and picked her up at my house. That whole litter were really good hounds and I was really proud of them. Gabe was really young then and he was awful proud of her. If I recall right she may have been out of the first litter we ever got out of Pine Mt. Chester. Man where does the time get to.
