AKC Trials and Derbies??

I, at some point, would love to trial a hound or two in the AKC midwest trials. What are the ages for the derby trials? Do you accumulate any points toward FC in a derby trial? What age is the cut off for derby trials? What age do most feel confident in running hounds for a FC title?

I am really clueless on this! I would appreciate any and all feedback!!

Dogs born between July 1st 2008 - June 31st 2009 would be a 2010 derby. There are no points towards FC awarded at a derby trial. As far as the age for running in trials, that is personal opinion. Some guys run them at a year some guys wait till 2 or 3, before they put them in licensed trials.

They are open to any AKC registered dog, that is within the age limits of being a derby.

I have a male born 7/11/09. Are you saying he can't be ran in a derby till next year? i also don't know much about the akc trials but have a couple hounds i would like to run in them.

a beagle is a derby throughout the year,January 1st through December 31st,if it was born not later than June 30th of the previous year and not earlier than July 1st of the year before that,except that at trials held in large packs on hare a beagle can be a derby if it has not reached it's second birthday on the first day of the trial.
