Re: Best BloodLine To Have In Your Kennel
I have seen some Pine Mt dogs go. I think the junie dog and the Abby dog of jimmy abshire is Pine Mt. His Abby bitch was the real deal, no matter how she was bred. I have seen others out of pine mount and they was pretty good. I guess I would say the best thing I saw in the hounds is they hunted. That matters alot to me. Usually about a 7 or 8 on foot. Ran the line pretty good, but was agressive. That Abby dog ran a great rabbit. I really, really liked her. I know the old saying (feed what you run and like what you feed). This post was to see what the pros and cons of the bloodlines that we run today. To try to build up the best lines and hope that people would see what they like and try it in there back yard. I have see so many people on here over the years say( The best dog I have ever seen is this old boys, cousins, uncles dog that could beat any of the accomplished dogs in AKC, UKC OR ARHA. Yet, it never got trialed). I am hoping people will improve the beagle standard and breed to our formats accomplished hounds. It is easy to breed to your uncles, cousins old boys dog that has brought 100 rabbits around. If your dogs can't bring that many around, it usually not the dogs fault. People need to be more proud of the sport of beagling, and pay the $150.00 or $200.00 stud fee. I can't speak for other formats, but in Mid-West, If it has FC infront of the named it earned it! You Can Bet Your Ass On That!

Re: Best BloodLine To Have In Your Kennel
I have to say the Branko bloodline has been one of the best things to happen to the AKC Mid-West trials in my opinion. I have seen several outstanding hounds directly from that kennel, but when beaglers have crossed this bloodline with certain other lines , the results have often been tremendous. I have always admired and tried to use & add the characteristics produced by the following hounds: FTC Branko's Jack Of All Trades & IFC Branko's Heli-Prop; some other dominate producers that I chose to try and add to my breedings are: IFC Able's East Coast Trimmer ( Jack's sire & also sire of the well known bitch, Camp Creek Gertrude), IFC Taylor's Sock It To Me, IFC Trakarab Pacesetter, IFC Haunted Hill Shaker & IFC Melanson's Ranger Dan. If you study the pedigrees(generations) of these hounds , you will see that they share many famous ancestors.

TrlBustinBeagle wrote:Sounds to me the question should have been what Dog or Dogs would you base your kennel off of. In that case I would say I base my kennel breeding program off Heli Prop and Hard Rock, which you might as well say Im basing it off Jack of all Trades. My experience with Prop bred dogs seem to be very smart level headed, fast run to catch style, endless desire. Nice insideout check work. They seem to be able to run under alot of conditions. Have heard that too much Heli Prop up close creates too much nose, but my male was a double grandson and he didnt have no cold trailing. Hard rock seems to throw fast clean running hounds. The cons of Hard rock that I have seen are some can be shy and alot are what I would consider high maintenance dogs, meaning the more they are conditioned the better they settle down.
Nice post Jay....we are on the same page just took a few post to get there.

Re: Best BloodLine To Have In Your Kennel
What dog you breed to still has a bloodline. So how is it just about the stud? That was just one piece of the pie. I have said many times, You need a great bitch to breed, to make the bloodline a whole. I am talking about matching up pedigrees when you breed, and breeding to the best stud today. Meaning, you might not be able to breed directly to turbo or lumberJack ect. You can still breed to the accomplished off spring male or female to have a good foundation. Reggie, Sport, Shooter,Wells wood Valentine, Musics bella dog, Are all proven hounds and bitches out of proven bloodlines. The question of the post or the question I was trying to ask is what dog would you breed to and why? If you had FC Wells Woods Valentine, That is a great bitch, and has proved it in the field. She has extreme star qualities and you don't have to breed her to anything to help her with a flaw. Who would you breed her to? With having Valentine to breed you have a great foundation on the bitch side and that is where it starts! Does pedigree(bloodline) have any bearing on who you breed to? The answer should be yes! Same when you breed a stud. It all results in breeding two dogs, with two different bloodline. In breeding does the pedigree sway you one way or the other? Each of us has a good bitch or male we won't to breed down the road. I am trying to see why people choose that dog or that bloodline, and for other non-accomplished breeders to see.

I looked and it was 97' when I saw Sniper, we had just picked up Lelawana from Leroy Miller as a puppy and went round the lower of Canada and back into Mich. Stopped by Buds and GR's to visit. I think Sniper must have whelped in 95'. I know GR wasn't too happy with him when we visited at the time but don't know how he finished out as a dog.
You have to know and watch "who from" and "whats in the pedigree" of the hounds you get, no matter what family breeding it is. Some will breed the mouthy dogs and some will breed the mute, they don't know, they're just breeding pedigree not the individuals in the pedigree.
I hope you get to see some good patches run, I know it's easy to paint all with the "broad brush".

Just because a dog is a fc dont mean it will throw fc. ive known rufus(pine mt) a long time and can remember him ever breeding to a FC.
dont know why he bred to what he bred to but he sure made some great crosses, i know everyone knows the junie dog, that cross was made
by jimbo. junie and the spade dog are two nice hounds but at one time rufus had a hard pack of hounds like jimmy said before.rufus has
quit dogs for now he would be the one to ask about his line. i fell in love with the line yrs ago and will run them till i quit.

Re: Best BloodLine To Have In Your Kennel
It doesn't matter what the bloodline is if the dog is not a producer, you at sh*t out of luck! Some dogs are awesome dogs and don't reproduce. Some reproducers nobody has ever heard of but they can produce. Pedigrees can help you match up when you know the traits of the bloodlines but you better be trying to improve the qualities of your bitch with what she needs to improve upon. If you don't in my opinion you just wasted a breeding and didn't improve a thing.
Thats where the breeding to the flavor of the month becomes a problem. Never breed a dog unless the two can compliment each other by improving on their faults. We all know every dog has faults. Another problem is breeders not going outside their own blood and then in end up with nothing if diesase or something tragic happens. It's all trial and error, you have to take the good with the bad and not be afraid to cull. But if I am not trying to make better pups, I am not going to breed.

Re: Best BloodLine To Have In Your Kennel
I here ya big Jeff! Know we are getting some breeding knowledge. There are some dogs that are great that don't produce as good as they are. I agree. Also that just because you breed to a field champion you are not always going to get one. Lets just say for instant though. You have brad pitt and angalina jolie that go at it and have kids. Then you have chris farley and rosie odonnal go at it. You are looking for the couple that might have a chance to have a son or daughter be a model or super model. Sure, it would be brad and angalina. That is why I say breed to a field champion and not to a nobody. You do have to due some searching before you breed. Traits, pedigree, off spring, faults, strengths, ect. I am saying, I hope jeff with that bitch he won better beagling hound of the year with would go with a field champion in his format. There are plenty of them to choose from and you are just ensuring that the AKC dogs stay strong, with breeding strength to strength. I am not saing just AKC. I ahve bred a bitch to Gray Valleys Talk About Jasper and had great success. I have a bitch right now out of Double D's Jackhammer( placed 2nd in the world as a open in 2008 or 2009), and double d's roughshod angel(hall of fame louis's blue man) in my yard and she is my favorite dog. She is AKC registered but neither parents was a field champion in AKC. Both are in NKC!

Wow thanks! I just threw up in my mouth thinking about rosie and farley tangled up in a love fest.

I still believe in breeding to a solid rabbit dog that you've seen run even if its not a accomplished FC or UKC HBCH or UKC PP CH....ect....... I feel that I have a great dog in my back yard, the Moe dog. He is a true rabbit dog, never get justiced in the field trialing, but he's still a soild rabbit dog and I cannot fault a dog that has all the right stuff that I like, but still doesn't do much good at the trials. I know I can kill rabbits over him and have fun with him to.
The only reason I trial him is to get him out there and let others watch him run. I'd like to get him bred some!!
