Re: Best BloodLine To Have In Your Kennel
Not to start another topic but why is TURBO considered his own line? Or REGGIE? If you look at their pedigrees they are mainly Branko bred dogs. Just because they might have not been bred by Branko himself doesnt count out the fact that they are through his line of breeding.

Re: Best BloodLine To Have In Your Kennel
Jimmy, you hit a lot of the points I was trying to get on the board. I seem to over look your dog AKC FC Junie and do apologize because he has proven himself a great hound in two different formats. I was hoping people would get on here and do what they are doing. Why you run Mt Zion Pete dogs? What YOU see in the bloodline that has had a positive effect on why you choose to stay with the blood line. I hope people ellaberate on turbo dogs, hard rock dogs, northway dogs LumberJack ect. What there strengths are and some weak points. It might just help someone on a chioce to breed to a MT Zion pete line,(I am sure he has been dead a while) That I no nothing about. I really no nothing about your Junie dog or how evey you spell his name. I like strong pedigrees, and to know what the line was. Pedigree and reproducers go hand and hand. If you have a FC Green Bay Shooter that is bred great, and throwing great pups, it is so much easier to breed to the hound because of the success of his parents and grandparents ect. That is the point of this post. If you breed to Junie, Reggie, Sport. Trails, ect. Why did you choose that bloodline? Was it just off of that dogs accomplishments? Who the heck is Tuna anyway? Sorry, just had to throw that in here. Hopefully it is as clear as mud.

Re: Best BloodLine To Have In Your Kennel
Turbo's:
Most Turbo's have excellent foot and hunt. Usually run in the 8,9, and 10 range. With that foot most have big noses and run head up. The line is great to outcross with. You can breed Turbo's to anything and have a very good chance at getting something solid. Turbo by Turbo, Reggie, Sport are examples of the Turbo x Blue Iris, turbo x Blue Berry, and turbo x ninja crosses that I think gives you the best stuff.
The cons to Turbo's:
Big nose can get you in trouble and produce mouthy dogs. The speed can get you swingers and cutters. You have to do your homework both sire and dam's mouth and speed when breeding or when buying a pup! I have only seen one or two that ever lacked hunt.
I really like outcrossing Turbo's with Blueback, Hurry Up, Boldstroke and Branko's. Junie has always been another male that i would like to see crossed with Turbo. These are just the crosses I have had, owned, and bred myself. There are a few others that I would like to try in the future. The Turbo over Northway, Patch, and Weircreek stuff looks like it may have some punch.

Jeremy, I dont ever select a blood or a friend off hear-say.
........Rufus Stewart had put together one if not the strongest pack of hounds i ever ran with, years before i got in.At that time he was pounding 7 days a week all year long, they had more hunt and grit than any dog i had seen or have still seen. That was my choice where to settle, still is i have tried to incorperate a few different ideals into my program, results? Fair too Ok.Its harder than hell to get there, Twice as hard to stay there.I feed 4-5 hounds max, makes it even harder. And since we are on this, how do we measure sucess anyhow? Trials?
Rabbits? I think people use a different stick too measure sucess.Maybe im wrong.

Re: Best BloodLine To Have In Your Kennel
Thank you sanfordssj that is exactly the kind of response I am looking for. Jimmy, I am in your exact spot on looking for a kennel like one of my old buddies had. The dogs had everything, hunt, speed, line control. What made his dogs even more impressive is he had 30 or more. There was no way he could have ran them right but yet still finished 5 or more dogs in AKC. I run my two dogs that I trial 5 to 7 days a week. All I do is brace and solo. His dogs must had exceptional brains, because he didn't solo or brace he just packed. His dogs didn't cut, slash, or skirt. They slotted up and pounded. I watched them run on many occasions and was pretty fault free. He run turbo and branko crosses. I no that doesn't narrow it down but am not sure the fella wants me to put things about his dog on here. I loved to watch his pack of hounds run. I have put some of the dogs in my pedigree and had good results, with brains and control. He has been around beagling a while.

Jimmy,
I use a simple measuring stick for success in daily life and beagling. If I feel that I can shoot a few bunnies over my dogs and I feel they suit me a the end of day if I'm happy with my life and the way o
I am living it then I am living a successful life. If I feel that I can run my hounds against anyone and feel good at the end results then your success as a kennel should be good. Its all what we as owners feel. We shouldn't get hung up on what others think. Do when I lay my head down on my pillow at night and I am happy with my hounds then I am a successful beagler. If I can look back and remember those good days with my hounds then I am a successful beagler. If I breed dlgs and get pups that I like then I am again a successful beagler and breeder.
My measuring stick is happiness.

Re: Best BloodLine To Have In Your Kennel
You have asked a loaded question!!! If you are running Hare hounds you would shoot my kind of dog. The DSBGF & UBGF are running a stronger dog than I like. Brace Gundogs is more to my liking.
If you are running Hare, how can you beat Branco breeding or a dog like Round Pond Mr. T or FC Buckshot Mr. Bill. If you are running UBGF, Short dogs have proved themselfs. FC Shorts Pro produced over 90, FC. FC Little Nip Otis produced over 50 FC. We can go on & on.
If you are running DSBGF it is tough to get past Black Creek or Cotton Country dogs.
Guys the key is to run what you like!!!!!!!!
My dogs would not search far enough from me to hunt the North Woods for Hare. Put me in a thick brier patch & I am at home.
We killed over 500 rabbits last year & my dogs were on many of those hunts. I had 2 - 18 mo. old Derbies that were on hunts where we killed over 200 with them in the pack. The most rabbits that was killed on a hunt was 21 & I was not on that hunt. Most of the time we shot 10 - 12 Bunnies & the dogs put their nose on 95% of the bunnies shot.
It is not about the BEST BREED, it is about what you like to run & what type of terrain you are hunting!
Hope I have helped a little,
Ron

Re: Best BloodLine To Have In Your Kennel
You make a fine point on the slower kinda of dog. It is what you like. It takes a special person to like a style or format he or she is running in. I myself like to run to catch but with enough brains to run the rabbit right. Good point! I like some of the ubgf style hounds. I personaly would not own one but are awesome to watch run a rabbit. Just like you probably would not like my style hound. I respct the ugbf style of hound as well as large pack hounds. I dont usually run either but there is a place for it in peoples heart. It is awesome to watch a single ugbf line or 40 big males turned loose at once. You opinion is as good as anybodys, sir.

Re: Best BloodLine To Have In Your Kennel
Steve I didnt answer my own question TURBO is a dog that is of the Branko bloodline. Every dog I own in my kennel are full BRANKO blood hounds but only our main male came from his kennel, but I cannot call them my own bloodline since they are from his blood. This topic was started to see what BLOODLINE would you start your kennel with. It didnt ask to see what breeder you would buy from. If your dog is 75% bred a certain way that is it's bloodline.

Re: Best BloodLine To Have In Your Kennel
I started with the Ole Bad Cliff line of Chip Esinhuts and that's what I've stuck with. They are what I like. Some have good foot and line control, but I like their hunt. I have one female out of Matt Glomski's, Red Runner and Sara female, that has really impressed me for her age. I'm not blind when it comes to someone else's line that they hunt, if I see something that impresses me in that line, I will tell you that.

Re: Best BloodLine To Have In Your Kennel
The post has had it good moments. Trail Buustin Beagles, I think why people are saying Reggie is His own line, is because I said, (the best bloodline today). Turbo is dead which we all know. Branko is so gereral because of the success of his breedings. Not all Branko dog posses the same traits, so I guess that is why they are kinda there own line. If Branko needs any more credit than he already has earned, maybe they should have said turbo the branko dog. I really don't think they was trying to give Turbo or Reggie there own line, I think they was just naming the best line you can still get today. Of course you can't breed to Turbo, but you try to keep him close in the pedigree. Clear as mud!!!!
