2001:
Cheney’s secret energy task force crafts national energy policy. The Bush administration released the National Energy Policy Report on May 16. President Bush appoints Dick Cheney, who was the Chief Financial Officer of Haliburton before taking the VP spot. But he was officially still on Haliburton’s payroll and kept about 430,000 shares in Haliburton stock.
The task force report was based on recommendations provided to Cheney from coal, oil, and nuclear companies and related trade groups—many of which were major contributors to Bush’s presidential campaign and to the Republican Party. The Oil companies— including BP, the National Mining Association, and the American Petroleum Institute—secretly met with the Cheney and his staff.
Only 7 of the 105 recommendations in the plan involved renewable energy. Cheney’s task force report proposed funding the development of “clean energy technologies” by opening up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for drilling and earmarking $1.2 billion of bid bonuses from leases in ANWR.
2002:
Renewable energy budget cuts. Bush released the fiscal year 2002 budget on April 9 and severly cut clean energy research and development. Solar and renewable energy R&D would drop by more than a third; nuclear energy R&D would be almost halved; and energy conservation R&D would fall by nearly 25 percent.
House energy bill includes $33.5 billion in tax breaks for dirty energy. The House of Representatives on August 2 passed the Securing America’s Future Energy Act, H.R. 4. It included $33.5 billion in tax breaks and other incentives over 10 years for the power industry aimed at increasing oil and gas exploration.
In 2002, Senate clean energy bill fails with a Republican-led Congress.
2003:
Republican-led Congress backs a House energy bill that includes $23.5 billion in tax breaks for big energy companies. The legislation would hand out $23.5 billion over 10 years in tax breaks to increase oil and gas production and $5.4 billion in subsidies and loan guarantees.
Yet More renewable energy budget cuts. President Bush’s FY 2004 budget once again reduced funding for solar, wind, geothermal, and biomass totaling more than $25 million in cuts.
In 2004, the Republican-led House passes a bill allowing companies to build oil refineries in minority communities. The United States Refinery Revitalization Act passed the House on June 16, but was never made into law.
2005:
Yet even more renewable energy budget cuts. President Bush’s FY 2006 budget once again cut energy efficiency and renewable energy programs at the Department of Energy by about 4 percent; cuts totaled nearly $50 million.
Energy bill includes $27 billion for dirty energy. President Bush signed the Energy Policy Act of 2005 on August 8. The bill closely resembled Cheney’s 2001 plan and gave $27 billion to coal, oil and gas, and nuclear, and only $6.4 billion for renewable energy. Amendments in the House and Senate to raise fuel efficiency standards for vehicles failed.

What happens to a battery that is defunct? Where do they go? All renewable energy takes batteries to convert to power, where are they going to be stored? Batteries have more environmental hazards then oil. Do you know how many batteries it takes to convert to enough electric from wind generation, from solar panels? It will take just about a truck load to power one house. Tell me where are all these batteries going to be stored safely?
Have you talked to the folks on the West coast that are dealing with the wind generation? Guess what they are noticing... Wild life disappearing you know why? Due to the deep earth vibrations nothing lives where there is wind generation mills. Nothing not even snakes. Ask them what it is like living near a wind farm, most will tell you there is constant noise that becomes unbearable. Do you want to live under that? I don't. Do you know how many solar panels it takes to completely power 1 house. Where are you going to put those panels? What are you going to do when the winter months come and you don't have enough sun to fully power your house? Put up more panels thus more batteries. Sounds like a plan to me.... Research before you preach it...

Re: SO YOU TO BLAME WHO-!!!!!!
PMB your post is liberal rhetoric and your president is a LIER. There are many places on land and a lot closer inlet to still be drilling for oil, the fact is there is and has been no energy developed that is as efficient and as economically available as petroleum. In laymans terms all the other energy sources are inefficient or extremely expensive to produce compared to oil. If not for the democrats and the tree huggers oil companies wouldn't be drilling 5000 feet below the ocean surface, they would be drilling in much more accessible locations where you could better handle a problem.
You keep looking for somebody to blame while the country waits for somebody competent enough to fix the problem. You and the libs keep trying to divert attention from the fact that this administration has done the worst job addressing this oil spill than any former adminstration have on any disaster in the history of this country
BLAME, BLAME, BLAME, THIS ADMINISTRATION IS A JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY COULDN'T LEAD FLIES TO $HIT.

Re: SO YOU TO BLAME WHO-!!!!!!
I got a great idea, Pinenut is so full of this liberal bullcrap, I am sure he is full of gas also, so lets cram a pipe up is butt an fuel the whole state of ky.If this works then we can use Obumer next he should be able to handle the rest of the east coast. Harry Ried will supply the middle of the country and nancy will surely be able to supply the entire western part of the nation. Problem solved and they all will have a job for life.
Re: SO YOU TO BLAME WHO-!!!!!!
Times are getting tough for Rufus. He is running out of leaders to cut and paste.
Most Rats know when a ship is sinking.
Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann and Howard Fineman react to President Obama's Oval Office Address on the oil spill. Here are the highlights of what the trio said:
Olbermann: "It was a great speech if you were on another planet for the last 57 days."
Matthews compared Obama to Carter.
Olbermann: "Nothing specific at all was said."
Matthews: "No direction."
Howard Fineman: "He wasn't specific enough."
Olbermann: "I don't think he aimed low, I don't think he aimed at all. It's startling."
Howard Fineman: Obama should be acting like a "commander-in-chief."
Matthews: Ludicrous that he keeps saying [Secretary of Energy] Chu has a Nobel prize. "I'll barf if he does it one more time."
Matthews: "A lot of meritocracy, a lot of blue ribbon talk."
Matthews: "I don't sense executive command."
I noticed Mathews has changed his signoff slogan from "....XXXX days since Bush said 'Mission Accomplished'" BS to "XX days since the Deepwater spill."
Olbermann seems to have stepped down as Supreme High Commander of the Obama Sycophancy Club. This is a milestone.
I remember when Jimmy Carter was President, the liberal response was "maybe the job of President is just too big for one man".
Maybe the job is too big for an aliegn community organizer.

Re: SO YOU TO BLAME WHO-!!!!!!
Im almost 50 years old and Obama is the least qualified person that has been elected President in my lifetime.
His handling of the oil spill and his constant blaming of "the previous administration" for all our problems instead of finding solutions helps prove it.

I know, Obamination never takes responsability for nothing!
Re: SO YOU TO BLAME WHO-!!!!!!
It would be difficult to find any job of substance for which he is qualified. He has no record, that I am aware of other than "community organizer". He supposedly was head of the prestigeious Harvard Law Review, but no one can find any evidence that he reviewed anything.Ark wrote:Im almost 50 years old and Obama is the least qualified person that has been elected President in my lifetime.

Rufus, have you seen this? http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washing ... spill.html
In case you were tempted to buy the faux Washington outrage at BP and its gulf oil spill in recent days, here's a story that reveals a little-known corporate political connection and the quiet way the inner political circles intersect, protect and care for one another in the nation's capital. And Chicago.
We already knew that BP and its folks were significant contributors to the record $750-million war chest of Barack Obama's 2007-08 campaign.
Now, we learn the details of a connection of Rahm Emanuel, the Chicago mayoral wannabe, current Obama chief of staff, ex-representative, ex-Clinton money man and ex-Windy City political machine go-fer.
Shortly after Obama's happy inaugural, eyebrows rose slightly upon word that, as a House member, Emanuel had lived the last five years rent-free in a D.C. apartment of Democratic colleague Rep. Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut and her husband, Stanley Greenberg.
For an ordinary American, that would likely raise some obvious tax liability questions. But like Emanuel, the guy overseeing the Internal Revenue Service now is another Obama insider, Tim Geithner, who had his own outstanding tax problems but skated through confirmation anyway by the Democratic-controlled Congress.
Remember this was all before the letters BP stood for Huge Mess. Even before the Obama administration gave BP a safety award.
Now follow these standard Washington links if you can:
Greenberg's consulting firm was a prime architect of BP's recent rebranding drive as a green petroleum company, down to green signs and the slogan "Beyond Petroleum."
Greenberg's company is also closely tied to a sister Democratic outfit -- GCS, named for the last initials of Greenberg, James Carville, another Clinton advisor, and Bob Shrum, John Kerry's 2004 campaign manager.
According to published reports, GCS received hundreds of thousands of dollars in political polling contracts in recent years from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
Probably just a crazy coincidence. But you'll never guess who was the chairman of that Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee dispensing those huge polling contracts to his kindly rent-free landlord.
