Great answer Anthony, Thanks!

Different trial formats for different folks and dogs.

I had beagles in AKC brace trials way back and enjoyed them but had another pack that would of been laughed at at a trial to hunt with.

Dogs in trialing, as a whole have very much improved as dogs that can be hunted with.

ANTHONY KERR wrote:The trend in the trials I notice seems to be calling a dead track after a few minutes and trying to jump another rabbit. Some of the best hunting check dogs pull the 10 minute checks after the rabbit runs a log or doubles through a trash pile. Trialing is fun, but it is what it is.
Amen.

Pine Mt. Dolly was awful tough. She could run a great line but when a check did occur she was about as tough as they come and no doubt was the best hard check dog I have ever seen. When the rest of the pack came in and she was still out there you could bet the rabbit hadn't holed up and she would prove it time after time. Rufus Stewart gave her to my son as a gift when she was a pup and what a gift she turned out to be. Thanks Rufus.

I never reply on here much but on this one i have to. Rabbitsmoker, sounds like your dog might have enough speed to at least keep up with some of the faster hounds. If she can do that and run threw a pack of hounds{ as you stated} still pounding the rabbit, then they are some judges in the Midwest and in fact Southern Large Pack that would PUT HER ON THE WINNERS BENCH period. I read on here quiet a bit about SPEED.I know this is off topic but sometimes i see where SPEED and ROUGHNESS get confused by some. Some see a ROUGH DOG and say dang that dog sure is FAST. Believe me there is a BIG difference between ROUGH and FAST, and it seems some just simply don't know that difference { not saying you don't }. When it comes to control im telling ya i have judged many FAST DOGS that COULD LOW DOWN POUND A RABBIT with a lot of speed and in doing so have very few checks. This was in no-way any OFFENCE to you,but just letting you know, they are some good trials, judges and FAST DOGS out there. . Good Luck with your dog. She sounds like a good one.
rabbitsmoker wrote:What i am saying is she runs a 7 7.5 in speed and can hold a rabbit for a lond time without a check if a dog in front of her has a check she will run threw them still pounding the bunny if their going with her they better get back with her they had a check she didnt im not saying she never has a check but they are alot less than the rest of my dogs

I have never owned one like her she does have checks but not as many as my others she has good line control and very smart what i was saying is ive seen her burning a rabbit up in the pack runnimng 2nd or 3rd and many times the front dog have a loose and she never misses a bark and we find the dog that lost break out and have to get back with her by herself she can pound 1 for long periods without a break down and has good speed i have had her since she was 8 mths old and she is bred now for the 1st time she is gay/dingus/shaker Thatswhat look for in my pups who can run a rabbit hard and not rough and have few checks thats hard to do and still have speed

Matt,
I wonder how much Prozac you would need if you could cross some of those Turbo dogs with a Blue-Ticked Wompass cat. :moon:

I heard that he was a swinger!!!
