I have been selling some pretty good lineage beagle puppies.
I keep having out of state buyers contact me and supposedly really want the puppies.
When I arrange shipping for them, most back out and some never even answer phone calls or emails, or contact me again to let me know what's going on .
Is this typical?
Who is supposed to arrange the shipping?
How long is reasonable to wait before letting someone else buy the pup?
I also get a lot of people that want me to hold the pup for up to several weeks.
Does anyone else commonly have these problems?

if no deposit is made I wouldn't hold for anyone. If someone is really interested they should have no problem giving you a deposit and make it known they have to take possession of the dog in so many days or the deposit is yours and the dog can be sold to someone else. Thats the only way to do it with people online because a lot of people will say they are interested and maybe they are but something changes their mind down the road and it is easier to walk way since you are so far away and no money has exchanged hands.
just my 2 cents

I would also ask for the airfare upfront. If you send the puppy out of state and they refuse to pay or change their mind you will have to front the bill. I also charge for travel, once you take the pup in for its health cert and drive to the airport you have more money and time wrapped up in the pup.

Re: Out of state puppy buyers.
Keith - Something that you may want to consider. I have, both, bought and sold dogs and pups "out of state." Before I buy a dog (especially if shipping is involved) I do my best to determine the credibility of the seller. I pay for the dog and the seller aranges for the transportation, which is usually a Dog Hauler. I pay the Hauler when the dog is delivered to me. The reverse, is true when I sell a dog out of state. Thus far, I have had no complications what so ever. I do not ask for nor will I accept a deposit. My position is this; if I want your dog, I will pay in full, if you want my dog, you pay in full. I fully understand about the "backing out" of the purchase. I think we all recognize a "tire kicker" in short order. Likewise, I do not hold a dog for someone.
