Dingus?
While doing some research on an upcoming cross I'm making I noticed quite a bit of Dingus in my hounds pedigrees. This litter I am planning will have 11 crosses of Dingus. Dingus shows up all over from the 6th-8th generation. I'm just wondering how much Dingus do you Dingus fans consider alot. I've heard of hounds in the past having 7 or 8 crosses and being considered a Dingus bred hound. I know he's been dead for quite awhile so I'm sure he doesn't show up close in any present hounds pedigrees.
Dry Creek Kennel-Bred to get it done where it counts the most "under the gun".

Re: Dingus?
11 crosses is enough for me to consider that a strong Dingus blood hound. I have a female here with 9 crosses in 6 generations. I also have some pups here with 15+
crosses of Dingus in 7-8 generations. Gotta love the hunt of a Dingus bred hound!!

Re: Dingus?
Jeremy, in a 6 generation pedigree there are 124 hounds represented, in a 7 generation pedigree there are 252 hounds and in an 8 generation there are 508 hounds. In order to see how much dingus is left in your line you have to break it down to the first generation that you see dingus and then add the other % from the next generation and so on. There is a program that will compute this for you and maybe someone on this board might be able to share it with you so you can have the correct %.

Re: Dingus?
What you’re talking about may be the “coefficient of inbreeding” or "COI". There are a few different programs out there, mainly set up for horses, but will work for canines, it just won’t be listed under canine software.
There are two types and methods. There is a “great debate” of which one to use to get the most relevant and most accurate that applies to your dog/animal “now”.
Wright's Equation and Hardiman's Method, {they are different}: Wright's Equation is calculated to any number of generations, whereas Hardiman's Method is always calculated to five generations…. Wright's Equation considers duplicated ancestors only if they are common to both sire and dam, whereas Hardiman's Method considers all duplicated ancestors…. Wrights Equation considers inbred ancestors only if they are duplicated ancestors, whereas Hardiman's Method considers all inbred ancestors.
You can find one to download here: http://www.tenset.co.uk/fspeed/
But if you join something like “World Pedigree” or some other one like it, after you submit your dogs in it, the dog’s coefficient is automatically factored in and revealed.
The best I have seen “for us beaglers” to join is at: http://www.beaglepedigree.com/ and he is super nice and very helpful, and at times is on this board.
Chances are, most of the AKC dogs that people on this board own {or have dogs out of} are already on there, and if everybody from this board alone submitted there pedigrees {older & newer} to this one site, everybody would “greatly” benefit.

I would join: http://www.beaglepedigree.com/ and as I said before he is super nice and very helpful, and at times is on this board.
You simply include your dog’s info by using “excel” and email it to him. I can send you a copy of one that I have sent, and you can just simply replace the names of my dogs with your info.
With world pedigrees, there seems to be some hoops to jump through that I have yet to master, and I have emailed a few times, with no luck.

Re: Dingus?
Jim, Thank You for the compliments about my site. I can import from Excel or Open Office scalc, and am happy to do so, but that does takes longer to add to the system as I have to verify the information on each hound. The preferred and quickest method is for people to scan their hounds registration certificate or certified pedigree and email it to me at support@beaglepedigree.com or copy them and mail to C. Post, PO Box 1114, Marlboro, NY 12542. Within the next month or so I should be adding a 6 generation reverse pedigree and trial mating function to the already available functions of breeding's and siblings in addition to just pedigrees.
The site now has an option for people to have a 4 generation pedigree researched, emailed and added to the database for only $5. If a hound isn't already in the database and after exhausting the pooled knowledge of the message boards no one can provide the information gratis, Gene or I will look it up. This helps pay for the sites costs and offsets the personnel time we spend adding hounds to the database.
If anyone would like a copy of the updated spread sheet please email me.
