Chewing kennel.

Post by Rockdog »

How do you stop a beagle from chewing up is kennel. He is making a pretty big mess of it on a couple spots. Not to mention the wood he has to be injesting. I doubt that is a good thing. Any sugestions?

PUT UP as much chew proofing as you can around everything and anything. I like to use alum angle. but that still don't stop them from chewing on the kennel wood flooring.

i got a bealge male right now he is 7months old and is chewing up my floor. i tried bitter spray and he actually liked the taste of that...lol

I set up my kennel so that is is easy to replace any boards. So when he is threw with this teething phase i'll repair what needs to. I got several areas of the kennel that he can't not chew on. cause it would be harder to repair those area. so protect them first.

Give him something else to chew, that usually helps.

The only time that I see a hound chewing is when he/she is bored or teething (as a young hound). If they are tired, they don't have time to chew because they are sleeping. However, there are exceptions to just about every rule. I guess just like people some like to keep their teeth cleaner than others. I usually put those hard plastic type bones for them to chew on and it helps clean teeth and keep kennel bills down from replacing wood, aluminum, etc. I don't claim to be an expert, but this is what I do. Hope this helps some.

if you make a paste out of cayenne pepper and water and smear it on the boards you dont want them to chew I pretty much guarantee it will work. I have personally used it and it seems to do the job, dont get it in your eyes though.

I usually give them a lot of exercise. Tired dogs don't chew. Make sure they have plenty of food and water, and chew sticks or bone. A dog with a lot of drive gets bored easy. If you don't have time to run everyday put them out in the yard on a 30 ft runner.

rockdog how old is your dog that is chewing.

All my older dogs dont chew anymore. My one year old don't chew anymore either. Only dog i have now is my 7 month old male that chews a little here and there. he went on a chewing frenzy thru his entire 5month old time frame. He would even try and chew on my fingers when I would pick him up. :bash:

you just might have to tough thru it for now. He is a puppy still. they like to chew nothing you can do about it but help protect your kennel. go to kennel section and check out how I chew proof my kennels. I do as best as I can.

Go to pet-co and pick up a bottle of bitter yuck. try it. about $6 for a bottle. spray it everywhere he chews.
