Beware of Stolen goods and hounds…
I went to Ohio this past weekend and went running with a fellow that I have bought dogs from in the past, Jim Lane. I went running with him and two others. We had a great time and had great running.
Afterwards Jim and I went to a “trade day/flea-market”, near Canton, OH. As we were going from booth to booth/tent, just looking at the different hunting gear, I saw a booth with collars, leashes etc.. with a few hounds in crates for sale. Jim walked over to a crate and was looking at one of the beagles. The beagle turned his head sideways and Jim caught a glance of his name tag. It said “Branchland, WV”. Jim has a good friend from there “Larry Perry”, so he got a closer look at the collar and I believe it said “Bob Adkins”. Jim stood up and walked over by the table and asked if he could speak to Bob Adkins. This young guy in his “30’s” stepped up and said “that would be me”. Jim asked if he was Bob Adkins from Branchland, WV? The young guy hesitantly said yes. Jim stated that he knew Bob Adkins and he wasn’t him….
Jim didn’t get those words out of his mouth before another man from the other side unexpectedly punched Jim in his face at full force on the right side of his mouth. It knocked Jim to the ground and then the original man that was claiming he was Bob Adkins turned over the long table that had stuff for sale on it, on top of Jim. The man that punched Jim than picked up a wooden shovel handle and was over top of Jim getting ready to hit Jim, but Jim while on his back took the heel of his boot and planted it between the legs of that man and he was absolutely paralyzed. When they turned the table over on Jim, there was a big cast iron cow bell that they had for sale. On his way up Jim grabbed that bell and hit the other guy in the head and he was out like a light.
By then a crowd had gathered and the police were called, but Jim did get on the “paralyzed” guy that originally hit him, and got 20 to 25 hits on him, in about 10 seconds flat. The police came and this was the results:
These guys had stolen from houses; Guns, Knives, Dogs and other merchandise and were selling it at flea-markets and trade days. They had a 16 year old boy with them that sang like a bird and told the police everything he knew. They had stolen two dogs from Bob Adkins in WV and brought them to Ohio to sell. They only hit Jim once but he did get hurt, they knocked out and broke off three of his front teeth at the gum. They were charged with Felony Assault, but after it was said and done, the police told us that out of the three involved {one from Ohio and two from WV}, they already had multiple warrants out on them for other things and the police stated that these scumbags {wanted fugitives} will be in prison for a long time.
I do want to say, I wish I could have helped Jim more, but at my age, speed and being in total shock, by the time I picked up a stick it was all over. It all happened so fast, and… as wild as Jim was acting, I thought if I got in the way he would have hit me too.
Because of Jim, Mr. Adkins got his dogs and shock collars back, but many are doing this all over and in many states. Beware and be careful what you buy and who you buy it from. Not all are bad, but many are. For the record, for every stolen dog that was for sale… they also had false AKC papers ready to sell with the dogs.

Re: Beware of Stolen goods and hounds…
That is impressive how he looked at the tags and pretty unreal those guys are dumb enough to leave the original tags on!!! I would not have thought of that. Hopefully, Jim is okay. It is amazing what lengths people will go to as to being dishonest!! Jim Lane, not only a very good breeder and beagler, a private eye and pretty handy in a fight!!!

Re: Beware of Stolen goods and hounds…
That is an awsome thing to do for somebody i hope mr. adkins appreciates that. I deffinetly would have done the same thing i hate a thief and a liar and they all deserve what they get for being idiots. I tell everybody that comes to my kennels that i have hidden cameras that tape my dogs all the time, who cares if its true or not it will make them think twice.
Re: Beware of Stolen goods and hounds…
Awesome, I commend you Mr. Lane. Kicking AZZ and taking names. That's what I'm talking about. I do hope you will get well soon.
